Took my wife on Memorial Weekend 2015. We had a nice, perfect really, Chardonnay and the Filet and Lobster. Perfection on a plate! Savory tender and juicy Surf 'n Turf happiness. My wife stayed home on my last trip to Cottonwood, so after a 10-hour day of hard work, I decided that I deserved to try a nice, big, thick, juicy ribeye with all the fixin's, pomp and circumstance. Well, they didn't play "Hail to the Chief" when I walked in the door but even flying solo they gave me a nice booth and plenty of attentive service. Being that I was eating for two, I, of course, had a pre-dinner cocktail, a gimlet, perfect. Then a nice rich red wine with my steak, and a pear martini for dessert, perfect. The steak was perfection on a plate, thick juicey--with the right amount of char. The veggies were delicious and satisfying.

We just had a large family celebration (13 of us) here. I must say I was impressed with the ability of our server (Rene?) to handle all of us so well. The seating arrangement for a party this big is not the best - they really can only put several tables together down the center of bar but it's manageable. Our appetizers, drinks and entrees were served relatively on time and together. Somehow my bone in ribeye steak ended up as another beef entree which was very good I might add although I would have preferred the steak. Their chocolate Napolean pastries are extraordinary. I remain baffled and disappointed that this eatery which includes a reference to Italian in its name does NOT offer either espresso or grappa on its menu. I was pleased that they graciously accepted their mid week coupon special of buy one get one half off an entree which went a long way to keeping our tab in check. All in all , we had a very good time. Excellent food and drink and pretty darn good service considering the size of our party.

Nic's is one of the best if not THE best restaurant in Cottonwood. They have excellent food and a pretty decent bar too. I do wish they had more AZ wines (I only counted 2 on the list) since there are so many people who come to old town for the wine tasting rooms nearby. I came here with my husband a couple weeks ago and even though they were slammed they still managed to find us a table and the service was great. We both had steaks and both were cooked perfectly. Probably the best part of the meal was the clam chowder I had to start. I was born in Massachusetts and I have spent a good amount of time visiting the New England area and I can tell you that this was the best clam chowder I have ever tasted. Unless you have a shellfish allergy, you absolutely have to order the clam chowder. In addition to the steak and seafood items they also have some Italian dishes on the menu and they looked pretty good coming out of the kitchen so I'll probably be trying one of those next time.

Excellent food. They have great weekly specials. My favorite is Thursday night. 1/2 off appetizers and 2 for 1 beer.

Came on Thursday and wound up with 2 for 1 drinks and half price appetizers. Our server Kelly recommended a great beer and brought us some olive oil which was great with our crostinis. Great!

Great atmosphere, salad was super fresh, entree was delicious. I had the spaghetti and it is definitely a huge portion. The server was very informative and knowledgeable and very sweet. Recommend!!!

Thank you to The Tavern Hotel for their guest package deal, we received a $50 gift card and an additional $25 for the Yelp check-in. Our experience was perfect with another couple of friends. Sweet, romantic like restaurant and we had a wonderful Server/Waitress: Ashley. Our dinner at Nic's was incredible!!!! I highly recommend their filet mignon pure perfection along with their parmesan risotto!! He loved their full track of baby back ribs. Large slab, cooked amazingly with the pork falling off the bone and he says three bbq sauce is excellent too. We LOVE this place!! A great reason to return to Cottonwood for The Tavern Hotel, Nic's Italian, Red Roster and Page Springs Cellars! I also had the lobster and he had the potato croquet but I'd pass on both. The lobster is on the small side for $22 and the side croquet didn't do anything for us. Must get!!!! Filet mignon: medium rare, parmesan risotto and the full baby back ribs!!!!! YUM!!!! I want this now!!!!! ;)

This review really pertains to the Tuesday night two filets for $29.99. This deal started out a while ago as a two for one deal. It was a great deal and a good steak. Then recently it was changed to two filet dinners for $29.99. OK I get it and it was still a decent steak and not a bad deal. Last Tuesday 4 of us went in to take advantage of it. Now they seem to have cut the size of the steak down. There is no doubt that they took a regular tall filet and cut it in half to make two filets. They were literally cute little medallions but a big disappointment. Two were overcooked and one was undercooked. The service was not the best but then that's expected for our area. No need to take advantage of the twofer anymore, the tables have been turned.

What a wonderful place! Well decorated, fab atmosphere, great staff and scrumptious food. Don't miss the clam chowder, as on another review also said its spme of the best I've had. On Sunday's they offer half-off on all their pasta dishes which comes with a salad or a bowl of soup. Huge amount of food for $7.00. Pasta dishes were big enough to split and ranged from $13 to $15. The Pasta Carbonara was absolutely delicious. The Baked Ziti was good, but a little bland for my taste. Can't wait to come back.

Awesome dinner...great service and a bargain for a steakhouse. Who knew that a small town would have such great food. Monday night Martins was a definite bonus but didn't effect my review. You must try this place.

I'll keep it short and simple. I brought my fiance here for birthday dinner and she stop keep kissing me two days later for treating her to such an amazing meal. Nestled in the heart of downtown Cottonwood makes the charm of the restaurant that much more enjoyable. The New Zealand mussels are a must and we have tried some of the best on both coast. Great wine selection and very cool deals every day of the week. Everyone cant be wrong. Nic's is the real deal!

Great place! The clamp chowder is so flavorful, chunks of potatoes and lots of clams. Our waiter Chuy was the best! Will be back on our next Arizona trip.

Food was great but service was below par. We really enjoyed out dinner but our server started our dinner with "its been a long day". It showed. Every request felt like a big request. Salads before appetizer "he did apologize" for that. In the ens he tried to be nice but it just felt forced. Food was reallly good though.

So I have been here twice and I'm impressed. Small speak-easy type atmosphere with great food. They know how to properly prepare a steak. The desserts... Scrumdidilumptious!! The staff were friendly and a good wine list. The only negative would be it is a bit pricey, but worth it. Will definitely be going back.

Super awesome place in Cottonwood's downtown. Besides the fact that the town is charming, this place is quaint and has an appeal in itself. The gem term we refer to in some things applies here. I must add that it was raining like back home in NC! I loved this and a great break from the desert. WOW! We came on August 10th. Our group of five ordered different things so we could all sample. Someone ordered the Antipasto Board (13.99) and holy crap on a cracker! It included prosciutto, salami, roasted peppers, artichoke hearts, arugula, bleu cheese, an olive compote, some fig concoction, and garlic crostini. I could have eaten a meal with just this. I loved all of it. A lot of these things you can get at a good Italian deli and this appetizer is superb. Get this if you come here! They provide you with Italian bread with olive oil, a spice mixture, and minced garlic for dipping. Our table was so hungry that the waitress kept this coming for however long. We must have hammered five entire loaves. This was also excellent. So far so good. They had two soups to choose from or a salad as part of entrees. I got a salad with blue cheese dressing. Awesome. The mixture of greens and things was perfect. I would describe this as an upper end salad as opposed to something you would get at a chain restaurant or steakhouse. I sampled their clam chowder and I believe a spicy sausage type soup (don't remember the name) and both were excellent. Both soups came with ciabatta bread. You could have made a meal with any of these items. All of these were a reorder. It is getting better... OK now the ribs. I ordered the full rack of ribs at 23.99. You can get a half rack but who in their right mind doesn't want a full rack (that's what HE said). These are by far the best ribs I have had anywhere at any time. They were meaty, trimmed of fat, and fell off the bone easily. Totally mouthwatering and the BBQ sauce on these wasn't overdone to where it was a dripping mess. Perfect. They give you a discard plate for bones as well as the moist towel thingies to use for cleanup. Simply an excellent entrée. This is an Italian place?! My side item deserves a separate paragraph. I got the parmesan risotto and it's more of the same. It is creamy, smooth, and rich with cheese flavor. You could have made a meal with this too. I finished Jolly M.'s because she couldn't. What a great side and something different as opposed to the normal potato and veggie option one may think of while ordering ribs. They had drink specials and I got something I usually don't. They had a $5 sangria which of course had mixed fruit in it. I would describe it as girly but I liked it however. A few people at our table ordered this as well. Of course everyone got water as part of their meal aside from their normal drink order. I keep my receipts for reconciling purposes and the server's name was not on there. She is server 29 or whatever that means. She kept the bread coming, the water filled, and was quick on her feet. She was great as well. We joked that she probably thought we were all gluttonous pigs as we were hammering everything that came to us. We were Dirt Devil or Hoover vacuums. This place really impressed me. Everything from the town, the restaurant, the food, the service, you name it. Top to bottom it was fantastic. I think this would be a great place for a date or a family get together. Simply excellent. This place is worth the drive to if you are remotely close to Cottonwood. They did all the simple things but did it superbly. Nic's has officially been bookmarked. Their filet mignon looked great as well and I would venture out and try that. I cannot wait to return to AZ to hit this place up again.

We were tired, hungry and in search of dinner and a drink. Nic's did not disappoint. Cottonwood, a very small town, amazingly has a number of good restaurants and this was very good! Now if we can find our hotel...

I live a good distance away from Nic's, so I am only able to eat here when we are visiting in the area. My husband and I have eaten here probably 12 times in the last 10 years and have never had a bad meal or any issues with service. I will tell you though, that we always arrive early, about the time they open at 5 PM. It is a very busy restaurant, so be prepared to wait if you arrive later. We especially love the lasagna, but the steaks are so excellent, it is always a difficult choice! Since "discovering" the Crabby Mac and Cheese I order it every visit (it comes as an appetizer or a side) as it is out-of-this-world good!

I went in with the family on a Monday and was surprised that it wasn't 'dead' for a Monday. The service was great, we got seated right away. I ordered the Tuscan Spiced Salmon with baked potato and salad. I was expecting a slightly bigger piece of salmon but it tasted great. The potato was big and I should have probably went with the veggies. The chocolate cake was delish. We split it 4 ways which was fine for us.

My boyfriend and I found Nic's on YELP before our trip to the Sedona/Cottonwood area. On the first night of our trip, we went to Nic's for my boyfriend's birthday dinner. We ordered the Antipasto Board appetizer and it came out quickly. It included prosciutto, salami, roasted red peppers, marinated artichoke hearts, arugula, bleu cheese, a white cheese (not sure which type), an olive compote, a mascarpone/fig mixture, and some garlic cheese crostini. Everything was delicious! I had the eggplant parmesan with spaghetti and my boyfriend had the chicken parmesan with veggies (carrots, broccoli, onions, and cauliflower) for dinner. The servings were humongous; definitely enough for lunch the next day. Everything was prepared superbly and came out piping hot. The service was speedy and efficient--our glasses were never empty for too long. The restaurant itself is a bit cramped. We were seated in what felt like the main hallway of the restaurant, as servers were constantly walking by. Although it was a bit loud for me, we were able to hold a conversation without having to yell across the table. Also, it's pretty dark inside, but that adds to the intimacy in my opinion. Next time we're in the area, we will visit Nic's again. It was a great way to start our vacation!

The bread and dipping oil was very good and the salad that came with dinner was really good just for a dinner salad. I had the kabobs which were very good (very rare when it was ordered medium) but my husband had the sirloin steak which had little taste to it. Overall it was pretty good

Wednesday wino day is half off all bottles of wine on the menu. We were undecided between two different bottles from Italy and our waiter offered to let us taste each before we purchased. When has that happened in a restaurant? In this case it resulted in a big sale. The waiter did the right thing and promoted this establishment into a five star rating for us both. Did I mention the ribs were killer? I will eat here again. All the employees were gracious from the time they opened the door for us to enter to the time to leave, again the door was opened and cordial bid to have a good evening. Interesting fact... I was told by a local gentleman earlier in the day, when we asked for a good place to eat, "go to any of the 6 restaurants the owner has because he/she only hires nice, courteous and friendly employees" . Our waiter Jesus and the other employees at Nicks proved that to be true. Good work Owner. You pay attention to the right stuff!

Im only writing this because I just licked my plate clean, including all of the clam shells on it. Order the Clams Portofino (especially if you like salty, al dente pasta and seafood). We sat at the bar after being offered a booth and actually preferred it. LARGE cocktails. Good wine. Give it a go.

This place is awesome! Coming from phoenix we were spending the weekend in Sedona & actually had someone there suggest coming here so on the way back home we stopped by to check it out. Thankfully we got there around 4:30( it opens at 5pm), We checked out the store next door & about 5 minutes later came back out to the restaurant who not only had already started seating people but also had a line outside. when we got in a few minutes later the place was packed! We were greeted very fast & were feeling very confident about our meal as how busy it was. Our server took our drink order & returned very fast with our drinks & told us about the days special orders. After making our orders the free bread and oil was brought out. It was delicious, Shortly after this.. our starter came(spinach & artichoke bruschetta) YUM! it was so good! After this our side salad/soup came out also delicious the champagne salad dressing is lovely & so is the clam chowder! By the time my main course came i was far too full to eat & so was my partner. Our waitress very happily brought togo boxes for us. As it was a sunday our pastas were half pice so we got all that for $30. A short while ago i reheated our pastas in the microwave my boyfriends shrimp alfredo & my pasta pomordo. Again Everything was perfect! Even after being reheated there was tones of flavour & it was great pasta! I have already told many friends about the place & told them if they visit they must check it out! Very good food and great value!!

The food and service were excellent, the server was knowledge of the menu and the flavors, he did forget to put in our appetizer and offered to rush it but we declined and were glad because the main course was so great and large we had left overs, I will return again and highly recommend it.

We were celebrating our 50th anniversary passing through Cottonwood. We rely on Yelp to help find good places to eat and were not disappointed. Nic's is AWESOME in every way. We may go back to Cottonwood just to eat here. My husband's halibut was a little over cooked. The manager came by our table to see how our meal was so my husband mentioned that his halibut was a little over cooked and he immediately insisted they do another one, which was cooked to perfection! My chicken parmesan was a do again for sure. Our server also was very attentive. We were than given free dessert because of the halibut. Than the managers brought after dinner drinks to celebrate our anniversary. They definable make sure the customer is happy!!

Calamari is delicious. Definitely add a meatball to the dishes. Our server was very good and the manager was on par with checking on us and clearing plates immediately. Great to see such great service and food in a smaller town.

Called for a reservation. The guy said they weren't that busy, so really didn't need s reservation. Got there & there was a 30 minute wait. Very irritating. Good we missed out on this place. Went to Bocces & had a great time, great drinks and great food.

We went to an energy workshop at Nic's on Thursday night (March 5) and we were in the back room. Our server Rich did an outstanding job serving the 15 of us remembering what each had ordered. I had a perfectly cooked steak and the delicious crabby mac and cheese. I was glad to see Rich as our waiter as we had had him previously in the main dining room and loved his professionalism

Very yummy! The service was excellent, and everyone came up and told me how adorable my daughter was which I loved obviously! We went after a long hike so we didn't look our best and it was on the fancier side. So next time which I'm sure there will be a next time we will look nicer and smell better I promise!

We had the shrimp cocktail and split the King Crab dinner. They add $4 to the plate but give you even sides and an additional salad. Great service...amazing food!

One of the Cottonwood locals suggested that we eat at Nic's - what a great surprise - we were not expecting such a wonderful dining experience. There was about a 20 minute wait - but from the moment we sat down . . THE VERY BEST SERVICE we have ever seen in a restaurant. Our waitress was very sweet - but there were about 3 others that treated us like we were their table. If a waitress was walking by and seen your water was low, or your bread was gone, you had finished your appetizer - they filled the glasses, brought you a fresh loaf of bread, cleared your empty plate - and they did it without being annoying, The best team work we have ever seen in a restaurant. The food - well, according to my my boyfriend, order the salad and the clam chowder - wait until you get that to before ordering your entree - he said it was the best clam chowder he had ever tasted and if he hadn't already ordered - he would of asked for a second bowl of clam chowder as his entree. If we ever pass thru Cottonwood again, Nic's will be on our 'go to' list.

Great atmosphere, although loud, our server was very good however my friends order came out wrong. They quickly took care of it bringing him out the right meal. I had the BBQ chicken which was very tender, the sauce was good. The menu is on the high side but I have friends who are regulars and say they've never had a bad meal.

We went here for our last night in Cottonwood. It was great!! Our server Sarah was fantastic. She was friendly, great recommendations, and never an empty glass. The restaurant had a nice warm cozy atmosphere. dim lighting, great food, and good drinks.

We came here with the YELP recommendations. From start to finish it was wonderful. Service was excellent. We ordered the Butcher Block for an appetizer. Wish I knew just how much they serve you. Their servings are so big, you need to split the meals. We had enough to eat dinner the very next night. YUM. If I ever get back to Cottonwood, this is a place I would definitely return to.

While on vacation in Sedona, AZ we were directed to this restaurant for a good steak dinner. The atmosphere was classy and comfortable. The service was very attentive, anyone walking by took a dirty dish or asked if we wanted a refill on our drinks. The filet tips appetizer was amazing good and a huge portion perfect for sharing. I really enjoyed the steamed veggies and the sautéed mushrooms and onions with my filet mignon. I tried one of their specialty martinis (Blue Sky), which was light and fruity. We will definitely try to get back again before we return home.

We found this place because of the great reviews. We ended up on filet night by luck and found a great deal for 2 steaks (steak night for 2 special...i think it was Tuesday night)! I elected to have the crab mac and cheese for a few bucks extra as a side and I must say it is 5 stars!!! The steaks were good, the service was good, and the wine was fine. I'd come back for sure on my next visit to the area. Nice date place as well....

We ALwAYS make it a point to eat dinner here when we visit. Classy environment that you don't expect on the strip and the food is top notch. We have had steak, seafood and different Italian dishes and they are all good!

Great food, large portions, prompt friendly service. I had the chicken Marsala, it was delicious. My wife had the Alfredo, excellent as well. Prices was very reasonable. Next time we are looking for dinner in Cottonwood again, Nic's will be were we go.

As I've stated before, Cottonwood is small and does not have a lot of options. Unlike a lot of places in Sedona, Nic's does not rely on lack of choice to keep business running. Their menu consists of seafood, pasta and steaks. Their filet mignon is one of my favorites, served Tuscan style rubbed with olive oil and herbs. It is always tender and flavorful. You can add on a small lobster tail which is what I always do. Though small, their lobster tails are amoung the best I've had. They are always moist and tasty. I would rather have that than a bigger, dry rubbery lobster which is what I'm used to having. The prices are very reasonable, the restaurant has a great atmosphere (definitely a bigger city feel in a small town) and the service is always exceptional.

This is the place to be in historic district in Cottonwood. After a day of wine tastings we needed to load up on carbs and decided to stop here for an early dinner. I think we got here just before 6 and the place was packed shortly after. Lots of big booths and a dark, comfortable atmosphere. Lots of great pasta choices. I ordered the chicken piccata and it came with a choice of soup or salad (I had the delicious tomato bisque) and a side (I ordered the Parmesan risotto). Everything including the service was excellent. I would definitely recommend this place for a nice dinner in Cottonwood. Within walking distance to AZ Stronghold's tasting room, Pillsbury's tasting room and Verde Valley Oil Traders, which are must stops in this area.

We were very surprised the first time we walked into Nic's. Now this was several years ago before old town Cottonwood had evolved into what it now is. It was like magic and down the rabbit hole....walk in the door and the dusty blue collar street scene became an upscale steak bistro scene. So we acquired a nice booth without reservations (not suggesting you try that now) and the magic continued. Upscale food and drink with upscale service in Cottonwood. The steaks were as good as it gets. Sides were very too. The crab macaroni is among the best I have had anywhere. Dessert top notch to boot. My suggestion for those first time visitors to Verde Valley.....go to Nic's in Cottonwood and forget the pretentious eateries in up town Sedona.

Love this place, great food, staff and management top notch, food even better, good steaks, lobster, chicken. Always spot on. If you are in Cottonwood, this plase is a must stop, you need to try there sister resturant just a few steps away. The Tavern Grill. You can not go wrong. I look forward to going back.

  • Nate B.

My wife and I have eaten here 3 times and it was disappointing from a foody standpoint. The service was always attentive, but the menu items were overpriced. I got the soup, salad, and bread, which came with... bread! But our server asked if I "wanted bread" before bringing any. The salad was a spring mix, unremarkable and small. The New England clam chowder was tasty, though. My wife ordered cappellini with a tomato sauce. The portion was huge, more than we could eat, so if you're hungry for pasta, this would be a good choice. We'll be back for wine and an appetizer, but overall, we haven't been happy with the price point. It's always been busy, though, so maybe we just ordered the wrong things?

Nic's is still the best place to go in Cottonwood. Sure they may have an off day on a favorite dish occasionally, you may get a slower server sometimes, etc. But overall, they still are the best food around. Good steaks, good seafood, great Italian dishes, and reasonably priced. I always love the dark, classy, but unpretentious atmosphere as well. If your looking to take your significant other on a nice date, it's still Nic's.

We stopped in here for dinner on a Monday evening as we were staying in Cottonwood at a B+B. Little did we know that Monday is $3.50 martini night!! Wow!! Great martinis! The place is pretty old school...dim lights and dark wood with a gorgeous bar area. We were seated in a booth..large and comfy. We didn't have the steak or the crab (that is in the name) but we did have the Italian! Great salads to start and my pasta primavera ranked up there in the best I have ever had. LOTS of different veggies...not just carrots and broccali..but zucchini and summer squash and bell peppers. YUM. You could have it with red or white sauce (I chose white) Delish! Hubby had Chicken Parmesan (also yummy) The service was terrific...a great dinner! Wish this place was closer to home!

We did a spur of the moment trip.. Had dinner here..we were both pleased with salad/soup, entrees (ribs/ribeye) and risotto. Too full for what looked like wonderful deserts... The evening's special cocktails were a treat.. Would go back...

stayed at the Tavern Hotel on their 2 nite wine tasting package that included a gift card at Nic's and we really liked the menu and service. It's great to be able to walk from the hotel to the tasting rooms and then have such a nice dinner. I had the lasagna which is probably the best I've ever had. Hats off to Cottonwood, who would have known how that sleepy little town is changing.

I can't believe it has taken me this long to write a review! I think maybe because it's hard to put into words how good this place is. It is a must on our places to go when we are in Cottonwood. There has only been one time that we ate at another establishment and a piece of me died that day. But it was only because Nic's was closed between lunch and dinner service. I usually take a seat at the bar, not my usual choice but there is a good reason. Wait for it..................The Bartender's Special! You choose soup or salad, small plate entree(ie; calamari, shrimp skewer, steak skewer, pasta or loaded baked potato) then you choose a dessert, cocktail/wine or bread w/ olive oil dipping plate. Yes, ladies and gentlemen you get to choose from all of this for 9 bucks!!!!!!! The house salad is tasty, the clam chowder is heaven, the calamari is lightly fried and comes with a marina and a lemon garlic butter dipping sauce. The bread is served warm with fresh garlic and olive oil dipping plate. I have had the baked potato and the steak skewer as well and it is all oh so good! I have heard that the fine dining area is equally good, but have yet to try the full dinner entrees. I suspect that if the food I have already sampled is any indication of the rest of the menu, I can't wait to go back!!!!

Awesome food, the best service, and great atmosphere! Nic's location is a bonus. I've been going to Nic's for 8 years & I have NEVER had a bad meal, bad service, or a bad experience. You feel immediately that everyone cares about your experience. Prices are great too! 5 stars all the way :)

Nic's was recommended to us by the desk clerk at the Best Western in Cottonwood. Boy, was this a great find! Old Town Cottonwood is pretty funky to boot, but this restaurant is terrific. Staff is friendly and the ambiance is great. I had the 6 oz fillet and my partner had the ribeye. Both cooked to perfection. I could cut my very rare fillet with my fork it was that tender. The steamed broccoli side was prefectly cooked also! I wish this restuarant was closer to San Deigo, I would eat there all teh time. However, as we return time and again to the Coconino National Forest and Mounment Vally, we will make Nic's a regular stop.

We got there around 1:40 pm. They close from 2 to 5 pm to prepare for dinner. We didn't know that. Got very good service. They have a full bar, and the interior was very pleasant and very clean. After being given a lunch menu I asked for a dinner menu. No problem. I ordered eggplant parmesan, wife ordered beer battered shrimp. Both were excellent. We highly recommend this place.

I give five stars to very few restaurants. Nic's earns our applause after two visits over two years. Lord is it outstanding! We and our dining friends have enjoyed most items on the menu and found nary a blunder. So can't recommend any one thing, you pick it and you'll love it. Service perfect. Decore traditional with dim lighting and comfortable booths. And cocktails are poured in generous amounts. Go there, trust us.

SIMPLY THE BEST!!! I took my friend here for her birthday dinner last Saturday night, we were up in Cottonwood to pack & move her 89 year old mother and I wanted to treat her to a nice dinner. The positive reviews posted here don't even begin to do Nic's justice! Initially we weren't pleased with the 45 minute wait in the bar with no one willing to take our order... my friend went to the bartender to request a bottle of the Coppola Merlot. She returned to the table and within a minute or so a server appeared with the wine and glasses. Shortly afterward, the "bartender" stopped by our table and asked if we were waiting for a table, we informed him of how long we'd been waiting, he went to the hostess and we were promptly seated. From that moment on Nic's definitely redeemed itself - and then some! My friend started with the clam chowder and I chose the Caesar salad. While we were waiting for our starters we had a delightfully delicious cibatta bread with the most incredible garlic-herb olive oil. When the chowder and salad arrived, we were amazed at the wonderful blend of spices. I lived in San Francisco for over 25 years and this was the BEST clam chowder I've ever tasted. For our entrees my friend selected a half rack of ribs and I ordered the chicken picata, again, we were amazed with the flavors! I sampled the ribs - they taste like they'd been slow smoked for hours. My picata was delightful. We both indulged ourselves with the "Crabby Mac"... wonderful! Throughout our meal service was flawless! The gentleman we thought was the bartender was actually Kris, the general manager. He stopped by our table to chat several times... he was as displeased as we were with our initial reception and wanted to ensure that the remainder of our evening was perfect. Our server was as delightful as our dining experience (I think her name was Marissa). After packing our left overs in to go containers (THE PORTIONS ARE HUGE) she reappeared with the desert tray - the Kris and Marissa wanted to treat my friend to birthday dessert... Beautiful desserts! We chose the creme brulee trip - if you like creme brulee you will LOVE this trio! Bailey's Cream with coffee, traditional, and a chocolate! Yes, we were won over by the service and food once we were seated. We loved Nic's so much that we're willing to make the 100 mile drive up from Phoenix again - just to have dinner at Nic's! If you love good food Nic's is an absolute MUST!

Normally I like to talk about the good and bad. And I can usually comment on both. But, Nics I can only say one thing.. Fantastic. I had the soup and salad. The greens were crisp and the blue cheese nice and chunky. I had 2 different soups.. New England Clam Chowder and Chipotle Carrot... wow excellent. I went on a Monday and their drink special is Martini's.. Absolutely delicious... But, that's not the best part... The service.....yahoo.. Wasn't sure of which dressing or soup I wanted, so I got samples of both. Not only was our server there whenever we needed, but the server that was waiting on the next table was at our service also.. And not in a heavy way. went there on a Monday nite., for dinner and man was I surprised. Ordered the same thing as i did at a monday lunch and i got the opposite. the martinis tased like i make them, with cheap booze and a lot of ice.. the soup and salad was just that, salad in a small bowl and one soup... no seconds... the bread sticks turned into a small loaf for the table, and no matter how many times you asked for more, only excuses came back... the food was still good, but the service, obiance and everything else was crap. and the noise was very loud..

Had a great meal here while we were staying the weekend at The Tavern Hotel across the street (I highly recommend staying there). It was typical Italian fare at very affordable prices. I had baked ziti and my husband had lasagna and both were very appetizing. Salads and bread were decent too. Can't comment on the steaks or seafood, but I'm sure they're great. Service was friendly. It was crowded so we got stuck at a tiny table, but didn't have to wait long. Decent wine and beverage menu. I would say it's probably the best Italian food in the area. We will most likely return if we visit the area again. Very good food with no frills. There were people in nice evening wear and others in jeans and t-shirts. There's nothing eclectic about the food or atmosphere, but it's the place to go if you want filling and tasty Italian comfort food!

3 stars mainly for atmosphere and reasonably priced menu, and I like how they allow you to add surf to your turf at al a carte prices. That said, the food isn't anything to write home about. We had the ribeye and king crab legs, my son had the snow crab and chowder and for desert we had the chocolate cake. The chowder which so many have raved about was good, but had some smokey flavor that I didn't enjoy. Plus, they should have served it with some nice sourdough slices, but instead was served with some sort of focaccia bread, which was good but not well paired with the chowder. The ribeye was good. Would order that again. The king and snow crab legs were not as fresh as I would have liked, the shells were so soggy that they could not be cracked, and instead we had to cut them with scissors to get the crab out. Most restaraunts will at least pre-crack the legs for you so it's easier to crack at the table, but Nic's does not. However, I will give them credit for atmosphere. Unless you want to drive to Sedona, this is probably your best bet in the Cottonwood area. Just don't expect a 5 star meal here. It's all about the atmosphere.

Any place that serves martinis with a full shaker and has four types of creme brulee deserves five stars. Just saying. Great food and friendly service; it's a whole lotta yum for your buck.

This was one of the reasons we were visiting Cottonwood! We ate here once before, several years ago, and it was fantastic then! The ambiance is loud and lively, the service was great. They don't take reservations, but seating was pretty fast and since the service is so great they get you in and out quickly, but we never felt like we couldn't linger if we wanted to. I had the Filet, which was very good, and a huge baked potato. My husband had the Shark Steak that was absolutely the best shark we have ever tasted. It was just so moist and flavorful! We had a great night and will be back again!!

Nic's was one of our choices as a package deal called "sip and stay" through the Tavern Hotel, which is across the street. There were 20 of us who had reserved the entire Tavern Hotel and made (far in) advance reservations at Nic's. Our group coordinator specifically mentioned that we needed reservations for 20, and asked if separate checks would be available for 10 couples. She was assured that reservations for a group of 20 would not be a problem, nor would separate checks. Upon arrival, we were escorted to a back room, which would have been comfortable for 10, very cozy for 14 and was entirely too cramped for 20. There was only one waitress designated for the room and she quickly became harried and impatient, going so far as to raise her finger at one of our group to tell him "one minute" which was accompanied by a very definite raised eyebrow. I had the artichoke and parmesan crusted Salmon, with the parmesan risotto on the side, and a bleu cheese dressed salad. The salmon was delightful, a dish I would definitely order again. The bleu cheese was very chunky atop a nice little salad of field greens, a tomato and a cucumber slice, as well as nice flavorful croutons. The parmesan risotto was a bit disappointing. It was very flavorful, and creamy, however, the rice was still a bit "crunchy". My husband had the ribeye, with sauteed vegetables, and a bleu cheese dressed salad. The ribeye was very flavorful. however, even fattier than to be expected. The vegetables were wonderful, flavorful and perfectly timed, so as to be finished with just a slight crunch. All meals came with a delightful ciabatta bread, along with a yummy dipping plate of olive oil and garlic; however, there was far too little of both provided. The dipping plates were already on the tables when we arrived, and there appeared to be only 4 or 5 plates for the entire group. The plates of bread were brought, and again, far too little provided. A couple people had to correct their orders and one had to send his filet back, as it was much smaller than others that had been ordered and was very fatty and strange looking. One gentleman ordered surf and turf and when his meal arrived the lobster was not on it. When he inquired about it, the waitress told him most emphatically that he had not ordered surf and turf, nor mentioned lobster. She was incorrect as some of us had ribbed him about ordering lobster. The waitress was adamant that the computer "could not handle so many separate checks", however, when our coordinator informed her what we had been promised, miraculously, separate checks were provided! Overall, we would definitely visit again, albeit with a few changes: never again in that teensy claustrophobic back room. Being cramped and overheated and bumping elbows and knees, seriously detracted from the pleasure of what should have been a near perfect evening meal. In the interest of full disclosure I will state that all 10 couples did have the $50 gift card that was part of our package weekend, however, most of us more than doubled our meal bill with our bar bill. And I know that every one of us tipped at least 20%, if not more. All of the negatives aside, I would still highly recommend Nic's, I just think that they are not well equippped to handle large groups.

This is easily the best restaurant in terms of quality in Old Town Cottonwood, yet prices are very affordable. The menu has a variety of options to accommodate many tastes, including vegetarian options. Love Chef Michelle and her crew. Dinner at Nic's is a great way to cap off a day of wine tasting in the Verde Valley.

Really, really good!!! My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this gem while spending a day and evening in old town Cottonwood. It has been a long time since I have been in a restaurant that made me want to go back immediately (which we did the next night!) I thought the ambience was really classy and I loved the intimate lighting. Our service was superb, both from our server and also the manager. I was impressed to see a manager really doing the public relations part of his job so well. Food was served promptly. I ordered the Chicken Marsala and was quite impressed with the dish and the sauce. Normally, at other restaurants, I find that dish mediocre, but Nic's was spot-on! My boyfriend had the crab-stuffed dover sole, which he enjoyed equally as well. Peanut butter chocolate pie didn't disappoint us either. All in all a dining experience that was first class and well-executed. We enjoyed it the second night also. Pasta and GIANT meatballs!!! The only criticism was of the filet kabobs that my boyfriend ordered. Meat was not cooked well, too rare for medium rare. However, we will definitely be returning to Nic's again and again! Not to be missed if you're visiting the area! Note: The restaurant opens at 5:00 and people were outside waiting for them to open. If you are planning on eating an early dinner, I would suggest waiting until 5:30 or so to give the kitchen a chance to catch up.

I hosted a groom's dinner with 30 guests. Everyone expressed their pleasure with the food, the ambience, and the excellent and attentive wait staff. I had a red snapper special of the day and it was outstanding. The crime brûlée was great. The wines were tasty and very reasonably priced. If I lived in the area this would be one of my favorite restaurants. Absolutely great value for the price. Two thumbs up.

We went there on a Thursday night. From the outside this place looked like nothing. But then when you waked in, it looked like a.five star restaurant. The service was great. Every one was soooo friendly and fast. The food was excellent. I thought it was just going to be typical italian. Like pizza, subs, calzones, they had these options, but so much more. Everything tasted excellent. And the prices were very reasonable. Definitely recommend ;)

Great establishment in a cute town. I had never been here and I was on vacation with my boyfriend's side of the family. Very deceiving from the outside. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in. Great ambience and busy for a Thursday night. I ordered the lobster ravioli and my boyfriend ordered the ribs. He was hesitant to order the ribs since he swears and loves Tony romas but was happy with his choice when his food came. I love how all entrees come with your choice of soup or salad and the serving size was big. Our waitress was on top of things and very attentive. No hassle when it comes to splitting a check ( we split a bill for a party of 10 into 3 bills). Recommended whether you are visiting or a local.

I want to start out saying something positive. And that I'm something of a dick. OK, for a Saturday, there was only a five minute wait. There is not much of a waiting area, so we had to sit at the bar. There are NO BEERS on tap, a 12-year old short fall the bartender could not explain. Then, the bottled selection was painfully limited. In regards to the wine list, in a burg that is trying to establish itself as Arizona's Wine Country, again, very uninspiring. I might suggest the place hire a beverage manager. ME, perhaps. The food was blase as well, and at a table average of $30 a head, I expected better. We waited a crazy long time for food to arrive, long enough that the waitress came a couple times to stall and refill all our drinks. As a sea food place, scallops were conspicuouly absent from the menu. Our calimari app was so flavorless, a table of three starving men and their dates left it unfinished. The Parmesean Risotto several of us ate as a side dish would have had Gordon Ramsey in an "F-Bomb" issuing rage, as it was chewy and under-cooked. The steaks we ordered were all about 15 degrees undercooked, like the kitchen was expecting them to be returned. My wife ordered a roulade of tenderloin that had a chunk of grisle in it. She couldn't chew it and had to spit into a piece of foil that something came wrapped in. The house specialty, the lasagne, was less than chain restaraunt quality. It goes on. I probably gave this place one more star than it deserves. We could have went to Olive Garden and saved $50 and had better food.

Definitely the best meal we ate in Cottonwood. We were lucky enough to stop by on a Tuesday when you can add a lobster tail to any entree for only $9. The steaks were great, especially the fillet, and I appreciated the fact that the broccoli side was not overcooked or mushy. The crab Mac side dish was rich and hearty, and the fetuccini alfredo was also delicious. And my top shelf martini was only $6.5!! Overall, a good place to eat with a nice atmosphere and friendly waitstaff.

You know a restaurant must be good if when walking out the door at 9pm there is only 1 empty table in the whole place. Keep in mind that this is in a small town and Nic's is off the beaten path in old town. I have to been to Nic's many, many times and now that I am Yelping more, decided I better write a review after eating dinner there last night. As usual, everything was delishio! Fresh ciabatta bread served with olive oil with roasted garlic in it for dipping. I have had a few pasta dishes over the years and they are yummy. However, I usually get the 16oz bone in ribeye. Amazing! Best steak in Northern AZ. Always cooked to perfection (medium rare for me). Soup, salad and side dishes are all excellent as well. Now for the best part of any meal (at least my meals).... dessert. Desserts are homemade and change often. Last night's offerings were: tiramisu, a napoleon, white cake with berry cream filling and a creme brulee sampler (as creme brulee is MY favorite dessert, I assumed they knew I was coming!) So, 3, yes 3, 6oz ramekins filled with blackberry, chocolate and vanilla (1 of each). Heaven!! They were perfect. And...$6.95 for all of that creme brulee. What a steal. Atmosphere and service are delightful as well. Enjoy!

I'm going to continue to recommend Nic's for the great food, but there have been disappointments lately. I don't know about other dishes, but the lasagna, always great, has had its portion reduced by at least 40% by my approximation. In the past I've ordered it knowing there was always at least 2 meals, but not last time. Everybody at the table agreed the portion was much smaller. No reduction in price, of course. Secondly, table service absolutely stops when they are busy. Not even offered dessert last time. Message: get out.

We had steamers for an appetizer, and they were excellent. The dinners were excellent. The clam chowder could have been warmer though. The service was above par. I had the Eggplant Parmagiana. It was as good as the Red Devil down in Phoenix, which I consider to be the best. My wife had the Chicken Marsala, which she also said was excellent. My son had the BBQ Salmon, and it was great. I don't normally care for salmon, but I had a little bit of his, and it was great. Overall, the food was great, and the service was excellent. Nice place in the downtown Cottonwood area.

We ended up eating at Nic's twice during our one week stay in Cottonwood. Our first experience started out rocky when I found a piece of plastic in my Clam Chowder soup. The staff was very apologetic and promptly replaced by soup and my wife's with salads. The food was very good (excellent ribs) and so were the desserts (awesome Boston Cream Pie). We were so impressed we took the rest of our group back for dinner on the last night of our trip. The service was excellent both times and everyone enjoyed their meals.

This was the best meal we had during our stay in Arizona. Seriously, good food. We strolled in with no reservations. The staff was pleasant; the service was excellent. Wednesdays offer 1/2 price bottle of wine. We started with the cheesy macaroni and crab. Very creamy and good. Cheese texture was similar to that of a fondue and tangy. Not a lot of crab, maybe an ounce, but that's okay - it was only a starter. I ordered the Pasta of the Day which was a round pasta I've never seen before. Held the sauce nicely; I liked it's texture. The sauce was a pink sauce ... seemed to be a mix of marinara & touch of alfredo. DAMN GOOD! I splurged by adding 1 meatball and 1 italian sausage for $4.95. The pasta was so delicious, I could hardly take the meatball making it better! And you know what, it was better ... WOW! Tho, the Italian sausage wasn't my favorite. I thought it was dry due to being overcooked; the husband thought it was a summer sausage that was intended to be dry. Either way, not a good choice to add to this particular pasta dish. But this dish was so good (and plenty) I could easily overlook this mishap. The husband ordered a rib eye and a baked potato. The steak was cooked to perfection. I do mean perfection! We both enjoy our steak cooked to medium, and it was wonderfully juicy! The potato was butter and sour cream; simple yet good. Delighted we stumbled upon this jewel in Cottonwood. Definitely recommend dining here for dinner.

Located in the old part of Cottonwood, Nic's is definitely a place you want to seek out. It has a great food at a great price. My parents and I had between us a 8 oz. sirloin cooked just the way I asked for it, beer-battered shrimp, a 1/2 rack of ribs, lobster scampi, a dinner salad, and drinks for under $100. The waiter staff was incredibly friendly and knowledeable about the menu. If I am ever in the area again I will not hesitate to come back again.

While visiting Gloria's sister Ann and Niece Belinda, who live nearby, we decided to treat them to dinner here for their hospitality. An excellent choice. Located in the historic downtown district, the outside of this place is nothing spectacular, and we almost missed it while finding a parking space on the street. Once inside, however, the ambiance is warm and friendly, with tables to the right and a large bar to the left. The interior decoration is quite early "western boutique" like so may other restaurants we've visited in Arizona. I ordered a large dish of pasta - what else? The girls all ordered steamed Alaska king crab legs, protesting they weren't hungry enough for pasta! My dinner was one of the finer pasta dishes I've had in a long time, and I could judge from the short time they took to finish their dinners, as well as the heaping plates of crab leg shells remaining that they must have been famished. After several tastings of their dinners, (required by my wife Gloria), I instantly realized why they had opted for this dish. It is rare to find a restaurant where traditional italian dishes and crab legs are both so outstanding at the same time. Next time you're in the vicinity of Sedona, (about 16 miles away), do yourself a big flavor favor and drop in here. You'll be thankful that you drove this short distance. By the way, they don't have "Sedona prices" either.

Awesome Food and Great Atmosphere!! Loved it! My husband and I visited Cottonwood for the Water to Wine tour and stayed overnight at the Flying Eagle. Came to Nic's due to great reviews and it exceeded our expectations -- love the Crabby Mac n Cheese! Great steaks and martini menu too. Very Chicago loft-looking with brick, large booths and a beautiful hard-wood bar. Will definitely return when we visit Cottonwood again.

Last night was my first visit to Nic's. I have to be honest, I wasn't expecting a whole lot (which in my experience can set you up for a great experience). I ordered the beef fillet kabob - great portions and cooked to perfection. I was impressed. I think our server got hit hard as at one point as he sort of disappeared towards the end of the meal and someone else handled our check but the atmosphere was pleasant, good food and decent prices. I'd definitely recommend Nic's over the Tavern which is just across the street.

Arrived without reservations and happy to wait for such a highly esteemed restaurant. Our party was promptly added to the wait list and off to the bar to wait. Bartender seemed to be a bit busy. Not at the bar but with answering the phone, telling times, giving directions then taking ato-go order. It wasn't terrible but she should have acknowledged us, put someone on hold or gotten help. As it was we just waited & waited. Finally greeted, busy curtly, no smile, zip. Drinks delivered, mine was wrong. Only 3 other small parties at the bar. She turned and went back to doing other things except trying to make us feel welcome, take an appt order or see if we wanted to order food? Not a chance. Host came to take us to our table and I asked to have the check transferred as I got a tip out and she insisted I pay at the bar. I insisted that I didn't want to and please transfer it and put my tip back in my wallet and walked away to follow the host. They put us in the last booth in the back which coincidentally backed their bus station and we got crashing dishes and a whistling busser the entire meal. The server must have talked to the bartender because she was brusk and perfunctory with us. We had to ask what specials were available. Drinks took forever. Appetizer dropped off without a word and we wanted another round. Entrees came out with the same haste and all we got was "enjoy" and a quick flip and turn without a word about the empty glasses on the table. More whistling, no check back. I'm getting frustrated just retelling the experience. The food was fine and the only reason there is a one star rating. More whistling. Maybe we just hit it on a particularly bad night for service but it wasn't just bad it was terrible and we won't be able to even give them the benefit of the doubt. No management even remotely visible and it seemed like this senior staff was running the place themselves. Host smiled and said thanks on the way out.

Was told this was the best restaurant in town. Was disappointed. Salads and bread were good. But spaghetti with chicken parmigiana was soggy and too soft, like cafeteria food. Chicken was dry and overcooked.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
