Irony is delicious - a little BBQ shack in small town Alabama with a surly woman wearing a Beverly Hills Polo Club tank. One of the Scottsboro innkeepers recommended this place over the bigger BBQ joints. Look for big sign for the Wild Horse Saloon, and Tate's is the shack (literally) next door with a picnic table and a takeout window. I ordered the small family meal, expecting a variety of BBQ meats, but it was 1 lb of unmarinated, tender pulled pork with eight hamburger buns and a vinegary hot sauce. The potato salad was pretty good (choice of that, slaw, or beans), but 1/2 pint is not enough for one person let alone a family. A plain old 5 oz bag of potato chips is also included. Obviously, I was expecting BBQ rather than a sloppy joes picnic, so the family meal was disappointing for the price.
