I dont tend to like a lot of bbq restaraunts. Its not that I dont like bbq, its that I cook it myself at the house and have had award winning championship bbq on several occasions. That being said I try to give places a fair shot. I went in here with very little knowledge that this was a chain restaraunt. I figured it was just this one and the one in Prattville. So I wait about 5-10 minutes at the front door waiting to be seated. Its not packed and there wasn't a wait just no one was there to sit me. Took a look at the bar but it was full (small bar) so I was getting ready to just go eat somewhere else but someone finally asked me if i had been helped. Got a seat in a huge booth which since i was alone was kind of a waist of space when there was an available smaller table but whatever didnt bother me. Looked over the menu while waiting another 5 min for my waiter and settled on the pulled pork sandwhich on sourdough, water, and a tall PBR. Waited about ten minutes for the food which is a standard weight time and not bad but in that time I hadnt seen my waiter once. The pulled pork was ok and the fries were about the same. Not a real smokey flavor to the meat and the sauce was knd of generic. I decided to add the habanero sauce which had a better flavor. Overall the food was ok but nothing special. The service was lacking. Might have just been my waiter. My girl wants to check it out still so there might be another review up here from me in the future.

I've eaten at the JNN in Atlanta, and (other than the ribs being too salty) I enjoyed it enough to revisit. I decided to try it again in Montgomery, and I'm confident that I will never eat here again. First, the ribs had more fat on them than meat. Second, I know that stuff happens, but the one thing that was truly memorable about JNN was the creamed spinach (with artichokes...ummm). They ran out of freakin' spinach. Third, the other thing that was memorable about the JNN in Atlanta was that they had delicious $3 margaritas. Well, my margarita at this location tasted like margarita mix and LEMONADE...like maybe they were running low on margarita mix TOO and decided to just mix it with freakin' LEMONADE. And I know it was lemonade b/c they put a pound of sugar in every glass! Jerks! Silver Lining...the ribs weren't salty.

The food at this place is serious. Seriously. Everything from the cheddar cornbread muffins to the grilled catfish was heavenly. The collard greens were good eventhough I usually don't like it when cooks use vinegar, but they were good. The coleslaw was just ok, but was fresh. Even the arnold palmer is better than most that I've tasted. I will definitly be stopping here if ever I'm in BAMA again!

I have to admit I'm not a meat lover but I was convinced by the 'bama natives around me that this was their favorite bbq place. So of course, I had to order some bbq, which was a pulled pork platter. It was mediocre to say the least. I am originally from New York and am sorry to say I've had better up north. The bread basket was good, apparently the first one is on the house but you'll have to pay if you want more.

Solid barbeque and great sides. The baby back ribs a very meaty and moist. They were smoked to perfection and pulled off the none with a slight tug. They had a nice crust from a good rub and really didn't require any sauce at all. If you wanted sauce, they have a darker brown habanero sauce that complemented the slightly sweet rub on the ribs. Their Original Concoction sauce was a lighter red, thinner and a good mild sauce that would work on anything. The sides were great. I had the creamy collards (collard greens with a creamy Parmesan sauce kind of like creamed spinach) and steamed cabbage which was the vegetable of the day. The steamed cabbage was excellent. It was cut into strips and had bits of bacon and a savory pot liquor (juice from cooking for all you non-Southerners). It should be on the everyday sides menu. The cheddar biscuit mini muffins were a nice touch to start. I always stop by a Jim 'N Nicks location whenever I come by one.

I will NEVER eat here again. I found a vertebra bone in the middle of my pulled pork sandwich. Enough said. Photo added.

Service was quick and friendly. Food was delicious... I don't eat red meat and the poultry is always medicre at BBQ restaurants, but the poultry here was so moist and delicious. The sauces for the BBQ and chicken wing is delcious. I love love love the bread. (corn bread based). Their Firefly drink is awesome. Perfect balance of sweet iced tea and vodka. They will pour more iced tea or vodka to your preference. They also give a 10% military discount.

There definitely weren't many BBQ places around here, but this one was on point. Yes it is a franchise, but that doesn't detract from the delectability factor. Every bit of EVERYTHING I put in my mouth here was awesome! As a matter of fact, whenever I eat BBQ now, I compare it against my time here. We went on the 4th of July and ended up watching some fireworks after dinner while still at the table. A great experience! And very well priced. Oh and the mac n cheese and muffins were just....no words..... so good. Well looky there, I found words. But that only begins to describe. The Jim N' Nicks in Atl pales in comparison.

Thought there would be a to more bbq joints around these parts and this was one of the ones that came up close to my hotel while k was here for business. So i thought I'd give it a shot...wasn't sure if I was heading to a hole-in-the-wall or a large restaurant. It turned out to be the latter. There were maybe 30-40 ppl eating at the time so I figured it was a decently popular place so was pretty easy enough to get a seat for a party of one. They have yeungling! Woohoo! Of course, this is gonna need a little explanation; This is a personal favorite beer of mine...both sentimental and taste wise. Plus you can't get it out in Cali...it's really hard. Trust me. But the fact they had this beer here just brought them up a star =) Menu - opted for the pulled pork sammich with two trimmings; the bbq beans and the cole slaw. Biscuits are super fresh, and you know how I know? They came after my food arrived haha. The pulled pork (on wheat) was good...but it was pretty much an open faced sandwich for me cuz the bun was a little too thin and fell apart on me when I cut it in half. But it was good. The bbq beans were decent and the cole slaw was drier than I'm accustomed to but very flavorful. But those biscuits....O...M....G. Excellent. They look like mini muffins and look like the were topped with a little butter but the reason I loved them most of all was cuz they were so fresh out the oven that they were so soft and moist. Man oh man! I'm coming back just for these guys! They serve their own bbq sauces; original and habanero. Both are pretty good and the habanero isn't that spicy, prob a mild(3 on a 10-scale) if I had to rate it. Service - totally friendly and warm. Made me feel very welcome. Didn't finish all my biscuits so I asked for a box to take them home and they gave me a fresh batch to add to it! Definitely on my "come back for mo" list!

It had been a long time since we had been here do to being on Hawaii so we wanted to go somewhere where we could have some good ol' bbq. We were seated and it took a good 5-10mins for our server to come around and ask what we would like to drink. She came back a few mins later with the biscuits you get but still no tea. About 5 mins later she is carrying tea and goes to the table behind us gave them something spoke to them and then brought back the tea she had in her hand. She then asked what we would like to eat. We told her and she went and we thought out in our order. We waited 30 mins and finally I flagged her down and asked when our food would be up because people who had sit down way after us go their food already. She then stated it would be right out. Yeah about 10 mins later. This place even has a drive thru it and it should not take anywhere over 30mins to get food. After she finally brought us our plate the fries were cold and stale. You would think after waiting so long everything would be hot. She had also stated she would bring us more biscuits that of course was after our food came. I asked her what was the reason it took so long and she stated she honestly didn't know and that she did her part and put in the order and it was up to the back and that they had a new person who put the food up in the window. She said she would send over the manager. He came over said he was sorry for the wait and that it had took so long offered dessert free biscuits for the road and we said no to both he then finally as a last resort offer a discount on our food. That we took. We also got fresh fries that tasted a whole lot better than the ones on our plate. Will we be back probably not. But they did make an effort to justify the problem which I give them credit for.

If you have never seen a yuppy, hipster, BBQ place then come on down. So very disappointed. I had heard great things about this place but apparently I have misguided friends. It would be generous to say the service was average. The food was ok. Nothing fantastic but not bad. The price was much, much more than I would have expected to pay for the amount of food that came out. I won't be returning but hey, if you want to see the odd combination of hipster and southern, this is the place.

We just visited the Jim and Nicks BBQ in Montgomery, AL. Being from Texas we know Great BBQ! Jim and Nicks meat is cooked to perfection, the potato salad is homemade, and so are the cheese biscuits. The restaurant was clean and do were the bathrooms. Susan was an absolute terrific waitress. We will most definitely tell all our friends and family to be sure and stop by Jim and Nicks if they are in the area.

You have to drive about 7 miles from downtown to het to this place, but it is well worth it. Nice friendly staff, great service, and even better food. I ordered the smoked turkey, with white bbq sauce, fries, mac N cheese and Sweet Tea. I was a little apprehensive about trying the white bbq sauce, but it was pretty darn good. This was a great dining experience. I will definitely eat at this place again.

Taste of Atlanta brought me here! The first time I sunk my teeth in those ribs I KNEW I had to visit. Funny how there are plenty in the Atlanta area but I waited until I came to Montgomery to try it out lol. Our server Chandra was the best! She was so sweet and quirky. She went over above and beyond to accommodate us and never complained or showed frustration no matter how busy it was. The food...I literally wanted to unbutton my pants, take off my bra, and lay underneath the table. The chicken tender, pulled pork, ribs, mac and cheese, even the freakin honey mustard was good. And those cheesy muffins I have been scouring the internet for a recipe! The portions are huge, you will have leftovers. I also like that they make cocktails with dark liquor, even the sight of vodka makes me queasy....college in the south will do that to you. Next time I am in Montgomery this will be one of my go to places.

We have gone here about 10 times in last 3-4 years. The food is good when done correctly, but it has been a steady decline in food quality in the last year or 2... When I think of Jim n Nicks I first think of the great cheese biscuits, but they have been so difficult to get! They make you wait 10 almost 15 mins to bring out then only 1 or 2 per person! The worst is they are cold and stale.. The Ham was Luke warm at best and almost no flavor.

Overrated and overpriced for every meal. BBQ is not the best in the world. Several other places are much better. Just another chain trying to make comfort food. Service and staff are not impressive in the least bit. If the food was not good the service needs to make up for it in some way by being prompt. Lacking in these areas. Find a different BBQ place or another restaurant nearby.

I was pleasantly surprised with Jim N Nicks. Stuck staying in Montgomery on the eve of the Iron Bowl we chose to give Jim N Nick's a try after trying Dreamland (in Birmingham), Litte Dooey (Starkville), Hook's (Troy) and Fat Matt's (Atlanta) in consecutive days. Hence, we were a little burned out on BBQ, but were pleasantly surprised with Jim N Nick's. I'd seen them all over The South in my travels, but this would be my first experience. We stopped in late (roughly 30 minutes before closing) and had excellent service in the bar area. It was the first time we had their biscuits and they were excellent here. In fact, they are addicting! I ordered the turkey plate (with mash potatoes and gravy and sweet potato casserole and my friend had the fried catfish. The turkey was tasty and juicy and the catfish was fried but no greasy at all. And, all the sides were very, very good. I was pleasantly surprised and plan to keep Jim N Nick's on my radar every time I travel to the South.

Pulled pork sandwich with baked beans was very good! Husband order the spare ribs with baked beans. There was no meat left on either one of our plates if that says anything. The margarita I order was a standard margarita. I'd eat here again but I would not consider it the best BBQ.

Me and my girlfriend are just passing threw and saw this place. Service was fantastic! The cheesy corn bread biscuits where very moist and fresh. We ordered the baked potato with pulled pork on top. Other than putting the scallions in it even though we asked for it without, it was a very nice meal. Also ordered the pulled pork sandwich with Mac and cheese and baked beans. Other than the pork being a little on the bland side, it was a pleasant change from the normal BBQ chain.

Best pulled pork I've had. The two sides were adequate, but on the smaller side. The pork portion was generous. Some are complaining about price, for $14, I thought it was fine. The "mild" wings were a bit spicy for my daughter but they were happy to make some up without the sauce. The muffins at the beginning were INCREDIBLE!

Great food. I ate too much! It hurt my belly. The waitress was good. Did not know much about drink and extensive bourbon menu. It was impressive. But waitress did not BS us. She said she did not know and asked the bartender. I really liked that. I evened ordered an old fashioned with special local bourbon. I assumed they would up charge. Bit just charged me for reg old fashioned.

What a disappointment! The wait time for a table was decent at 15- 20 mins. The waitress was sassy with some suppressed frustration. After taking our drink orders, we asked to order food at the same time and she said no. On returning to take our orders, she promised biscuits. After 15-20 mins, I inquired about them and her response was: "I can't make them bake any faster". Another 30-40 mins passed by with no food. I canceled the order and spoke to the manager. He apologized and offered our meals to go. He seemed genuine- unlike the waitress. Too bad my mother visiting from out of town didn't experience Southern Hospitality. I had to take her, my wife and one year old daughter home -50 miles away. I cannot in good faith recommend this restaurant to anyone, nor will I return.

12 noon, Tuesday, 8.26.14. surprisingly and pleasantly a rather light crowd. Promptly seated with menus, ordered sweet tea and cheese biscuits. My date and I both ordered luncheon bbq plates, her's regular pork, mine carolina style sandwich, both with baked beans and cole slaw. Dinners came promptly, but mine was a plate instead of a sandwich, it was fine, I said nothing. My date liked everything, I liked all except the tea, (it bore no resemblance to southern iced tea, I ordered a coke instead). Biscuits arrived well after the entre. Large servings of meat, no room for desert. Could have eaten some more of those good baked beans. Bill was $35??? Added $10 tip. No more special trips but definitely will return when I save-up. Service good, ambience nice, food real good, pricey.

On Friday night 2/27/2015, a large group of my family and friends met here to celebrate my son's birthday and him finishing up testing for the Bar. Our waitress was Bethany Massey. I wanted to let you know what great service we were given. Bethany was very friendly, prompt, and knowledgeable about the food that you s offer. She managed to get everyone's order correct which to me was amazing considering there were eighteen(18) people in our party. I have eaten here a few times but never got the type of serve they we received from Bethany. We will come back again and we will request to be seated in her section.

Good food...IF they actually have everything on the menu. Today was pretty much the last straw. Went in at noon, ordered pulled pork plate with cole slaw as both my sides. Sorry, out of cole slaw. Really!?! It's only noon! You've only been open for an hour. If this was a first it wouldn't have been a big deal, but I swear something like this happens every time we go there. Last time it was no baked beans, again at lunch. Before that we ordered over the phone to be picked up in the drive thru. Got our order home (30 minutes away) and they hadn't given us any bbq sauce. No bbq sauce. For our bbq! Sorry, but I'm out! It's the south, I will find another place for bbq. A place that isn't completly incompetent.

Recently hit them up for "taco Tuesday!" Very tasty and different, I would recommend. Prior experience indicates iffy table service but pretty decent service at the bar. Go, try something different and enjoy.

Food was really good to include the sauces. My favorite was the Habanero sauces. Had the hickory smoke brisket, good size amount food with the corn bread to snack on. Will be back for the ribs next time.

Heard about this from others and had a good experience with my first time there. I had the beef brisket plate. It came out juicy and delicious. Server could have been more enthusiastic but seemed like he hated to work there.

In all honesty, this review is about the service rather then the food. I did order a pound of their pork. It was 8pm on a Sunday night and I went in to order a take out. The girl behind the counter was not busy, however she was very rude to me and made me wait while she flirted with the guys at the counter, as well as two other men who came in after me. Eventually a sever from the floor came over and asked if I had been waiting this entire time, I said yes and he finished assisting me and he was nice enough. However, the girl gave me the food and when I got it opened, I discovered that I have received only the meat and neither of the two sides I had paid for. Disappointing.

Good BBQ, good sides, but this location isn't as good as the one in Birmingham. I feel like the Jim n'Nicks are always a solid bet, but you may have better luck with a local BBQ joint instead of a well known chain.

Great sweet corn bread biscuits and catfish was great...even the tartar sauce was good. The lemon pie was OMG delicious. My husband had a loaded baked potato and the pecan pie...he loves it but, it is too sweet for me. He said that's what made it good! lol He also had the potato (loaded). He went back for some more pie and had the chocolate pie. We didn't like it. I would go back...I don't know how anyone could pass up those biscuits! We also had the cosmo and another drink. The drinks were strong...maybe it's an Alabama thing lol.

We asked a local where the best place was to eat and he sent us here. I wish I had his name to send him a thank you note! The food was awesome from the cheesy biscuit appetizers to the pie dessert! We knew from the minute we stepped out of the car and smell the hickory smoke that this place is going to be good! Everything is fresh and homemade and nothing is frozen!! Bon appétit !!!

Oh come on. This place sucks big time. Decor is cute.. the menu is professionally layed out..Logo might look nice on a T_ shirt.. .but my bbq was so dry and lack flavor. I expected to find better bbq joint in the south. highly dissapointed. Pro - cute decor - professional mgnt ( chain) - the place runs and moves like TGIF. COn - Food quality is TGIF... not worth the $$

I LOVE Jim 'N Nicks! Whenever I'm in Montgomery, I make it a point to come here. The parking lot is ALWAYS busy for the lunch time rush! The soft corn bread that they provide (and refill generously) is just so soft, fluffy and yummy! I love the pork ribs (had it twice so far) and it hasn't failed to satisfy. The price is very fair. Service is great. I can't find good enough things to state about this place. LOVE IT!

This was really good for a chain BBQ restaurant. We had a variety of menu options amongst us and all were good. Ribs, brisket, chicken, pork, etc. Meat was tender and not at all fatty. BBQ sauce was tasty. Good selection of beer. I had a Samuel Adams. I did find their tequila sunrise too sweet, though. I couldn't finish it. All sorts of traditional southern sides were offered. The okra & tomato was a bit different from what this New Orleanian is accustomed to but was delicious. The cole slaw is excellent. Baked beans are but it is hard to mess up baked beans. Onion rings were big and fresh. Service was good, very attentive unlike another review. That could be because we went on a Tuesday night & only had a party of 4. I heard that they offer fried green tomatoes on Monday nights. Can't speak to desserts because we ordered way too much food and couldn't even look at a dessert menu.

When I want BBQ in Montgomery or Birmingham, I go to Jim 'n Nicks and have since they opened years ago. Great pork BBQ. I ordered the Pig In The Potato Patch... baked potato topped with lots of pork. The cheese biscuits are not to be missed.

The place is going downhill. In the past month they have messed up our take out order more than once, The food was only what I would consider average to begin with, the location kept me going back, but after last nights disaster, not anymore. 6 bites of chicken on an entree salad? Cold fries, a dried out burger...Tarter sauce instead of ranch dressing, large chunks of bacon fat. Not an edible salad, and from the time I called to the time I got my food it was over 50 minutes, not the 10-15 I was told. I stood at the bar for over half an hour, they were not busy. I also witnessed the manager being told he had a complaint on line 2, watched him walk away and go around to all of the tables to say hello to customers before coming back and being told again that he had a call on line 2. After witnessing that and then getting home to the disaster in my take out bag I didn't bother to call or go back to have the problems fixed.

I felt as abandoned as a kindergartener whose mother forgot to pick him up at school. ********************************** I'm down in Montgomery, Alabama with colleagues, and our hosts took us to their favorite local haunt, Jim-N-Nicks BBQ. Forgive me, but the first thing I look at on the menu is the beer list, so I can be ready when the server comes around for drink orders. Reverend Mudbones caught my eye. Now slowly drawl "Reverend Mudbones Homegrown Hopshine" with your best impresson of an Alabamian accent.. It's hard not to smile, isn't it? It was a good, bitter ale, so I'm off to an excellent start by the time the food orders are taken and served. Honestly, the food quality, not to offend Montgomerians, was average. I had the 1/2 rack of the lean baby back ribs and would definitely give the nod to Red, Hot, and Blue. After dessert and coffee were brought to those in the mood, and bill dropped off, the problem began. Our server did a Houdini and completely vanished. No more water. No refills on coffee. If you'd changed your mind (like me) and absolutely had to have a slice of "Mabel's Homemade Pecan Pie," you were left coveting your tablemate's. Flagging down another server, prompted a never-fulfilled promise of, "I'll find out who has your table." I felt as abandoned as a kindergartener whose mother forgot to pick him up at school. Now at this point the "18% gratuity for parties of x or more" rule sticks in my craw. In fairness, I found this post by fellow L.A. Yelper, Zizi B. in a string on this exact topic: "Large parties are notoriously more difficult to handle. Would you like half your party getting their drinks and the other not? It takes a lot more time, organization, and work to handle large parties, and that's why restaurants give them to their best servers. Large parties also sit for a long time and they dominate the servers' time. If they decide to not tip, then the server worked all night for nothing. Thank you, Zizi. I accede to your argument and will begrudgingly pay the 18% even when I'm the victim of a disappearing act. I didn't want to offend our hosts and talk to the manager on the way out, but I sure would love some of Mabel's Pecan Pie.
