I can't tell you what I ordered because I don't know. This restaurant is certainly a little hole in the wall sort of place, but that said the owner is such a warm and friendly person you start to feel like you have been invited to dinner at her house. Seriously, this was the most personal service I could imagine. The food was delightful with fresh and different flavor profiles. We started with a lovely fresh salad which had gorgeous yellow tomato in it and a fabulous citrus-influenced dressing and tortilla chips for croutons. There was fresh pita bread brought to the table with an tasty green sauce that hinted at cilantro. There was not a menu so much as she just told you what she could make. I got a dish with pulled pork and rice and fresh (amazing) pico de gallo allow topped with two fried eggs and ketchup and mustard and homemade pepper sauce. I know that sounds like a crazy combination, but it was FANTASTIC. My friends ordered chicken dishes which were served up with rice and steamed veggies. The food was colorful, appealing and had fantastic flavor. I will definitely go back for more food adventures and warm hospitality. My friends had mentioned we were celebrating my birthday and the owner brought out surprise plates for all of us to share of dessert that was fresh banana and whipped cream and toasted coconut and a yummy sauce and she sang to me. I am telling you it would be hard not to love this woman!

Do not be on a hurry. This is a small place and everything is made from scratch when you order it. The owner runs it all by herself and is the sweetest lady. The food is great!!

This was my first time and the food here is unbelievable!! Personable service and the owner/cook is sweet and makes everything to order. Try the brisket sandwich or pork or chicken or ANYTHING!!!

Wow! What a little gem in Montgomery. I didn't expect such great service and vegetarian options at an easy-to-miss Latin American restaurant.. The owner makes something for everyone based on your dietary needs. We had a mixed group of preferences and everything was great. This a great place for large, delicious healthy dishes. It is a small place so groups should call ahead.

I love hole in the wall, locally owned spots. D'road is all Janet all the time, and that is awesome! The food is great, and Janet will make sure that you are taken care of, from the time that you walk in until the time that you leave. She manages to do it all, with a smile on her face. Hoping to see her in midtown/downtown soon, as the location is a bit far for me!

Owner, family, and food all outstanding. Best meal in town, obviously made with love. Don't miss this place.

I had an early lunch break, so I thought it would be worth checking out D'Road Cafe, whose breakfast-lunch hours fit well into my schedule. Also, they were serving stewed rabbit that day, which I wanted to try. I walk in a 10:30 and Janet doesn't look ready to serve me stewed rabbit, nor much else for the lunch service. Her small hot bar is empty, and she admits she got started a bit late today. Aside from a little help that pops in and out, she's basically the whole operation, so the whole operation got started a little late today. Among a wave of apologies, we place ourselves in her hands and wait for her to get everything together. Ten minutes later, she presents us with a plate of sauteed cabbage and zucchini, some rice, and a few thick slices of a heavily seasoned, fork tender, and admittedly quite dry roast (probably more like braised) beef. The tomato-based sauce in which it was served helped, but there wasn't enough. Still, we ate it up and thanked her kindly, because this clearly isn't a restaurant that exists to make maximum profit against a consumer. Janet wants to share her cooking with Montgomery, and while her pan-Venezuelan cuisine might be hard to nail down, the atmosphere is exactly what you might expect if you were to walk into someone's home and they cooked you a meal - you eat it and thank them profusely, ignoring any specific flaws in the meal because you know it came from the heart.

This place is awesome!!! Everything is so good. I had a strawberry banana smoothie ( only fresh fruit and a tiny bit of ice used) so refreshing- NOT heavy. I also had her reccommedation of the pork with rice topper with pico de gallo and an egg. It was wonderful also. I wish I lived in Montgomery I would eat here weekly. The people are very friendly - family owned- very small ( only a few tables) but personalized service and made to order. You will not be disappointed !!!

All i can say is wow. Don't let the few reviews fool you. The food is amazing and the owner, Janet, is just as engaging. You definitely feel like family when you eat here. I had an off menu seafood soup and it was the best I've ever had. When you come in the menu looks thin but Janet will start asking what you want and she will just create something for you. The day i was there she bought some shark and was serving it stuffed with the dorsal fin and body intact! Crazy! I wish i came back to Montgomery more because I am going to miss this place. One thing. Your GPS will take you just past the restaurant. Go into the Village College Shopping center. Its facing the Wells Fargo bank. Enjoy!

We just ate here base on other Yelp reviews. Ms. Janet did not disappoint! Food was great and she was super nice.

This restaurant does not really have a menu, because the owner basically does whatever she has, to your specifications. I was a little unsure where to start, but she was very helpful and we ended up getting great food, and it was very reasonably priced. Very accommodating of dietary restrictions (one member of my party was gluten intolerant).

I'm not saying there's nothing good to eat in Montgomery. As a traveler I was wondering what I'd run into. Boy was I ever surprised with this place. Not only is the food tremendous but I'd keep coming back just for the service. Yanet is an incredible hostess. I was smitten by her charm. Take the time and check out this place. You will not be disappointed!

At D'Road Cafe Ms. Janett brings her refreshing heart and soul to the kitchen. Do not be deceived by the exterior simplicity or the location. I typically order her daily specials and always have leftovers. You will not find the flavors or friendliness anywhere else in Montgomery. Go and try her delicious food!

Great latin flavor. The owner is very nice. I had the 'chicken on a horse', it was awesome. Fresh ingredients, big portions, cooked to order with decent prices. Will be back for sure!

We found this restaurant on Yelp under "healthy restaurant" as we were passing through Montgomery. We really weren't sure what to expect but we're very glad we stopped at this establishment. The food was excellent. The proprietor made us feel welcome and filled the place with her warmth and enthusiasm. The lunch menu is a choice of two meats and a choice of 3 of 4 sides for a fixed price. However, the food is fresh, the vegetables perfectly cooked, not overdone and mushy. The meat was delicious, very flavorful and not overdone. Every day is a new menu. Janet, the proprietor was warm and dedicated to her customers. It was well worth the slight detour to get there, be warned though, it is not next to the furniture store East of Bell St, it is in the strip mall to the west of Bell as shown on Apple maps. It is a small establishment with only 7 tables, the meal is served on styrofoam plates with plastic ware.

Fantastic food! It's like having your mom cook for you (if you're Venezuelan). The restaurant itself is in a strip mall and not much to look although I don't know about you but the restaurants I have ever eaten at all focus on the good over the decor. This is no exception. I meant it when I said its like having your mom cook for you. The owner is the only one there except at breakfast. She is so personable and took excellent care of us. We had our kids with us and they really enjoyed themselves. My wife had the Pepito. I had a dish that wasn't on the menu. She made it special. It was delicious. Seasoned beef shredded and served on rice with two fried eggs (organic). My boys split the biggest burger they or I had ever seen. Seasoned beef, tomato, lettuce, onions, sauce, avocado and fried egg! Wow!! My daughter had arepas that were very tasty and she is picky. For dessert, we had the Drop in the Ocean. The kids devoured it. The owner is Venezuelan and the style of dinner is typical of the region. In other words, don't be in a rush. You will be there for awhile. I mean, your mom can only cook so much at one time! Ha ha!! Seriously though, the meal was great and extremely reasonable. In an area with a bunch of chain restaurants (Ho-hum) this is a real diamond in the rough! One final note...she takes credit cards but doesn't know how to add a tip so bring cash. We luckily had some on us or I would have gone to the ATM. It's that good!!

Food was amazing. To bad we are not from here if not this would be a regular place I would eat. The staff is extremely friendly and the food is some of the best Latin food I have had.

Easily one of the most personable places that we like to go. Janette always greets customers warmly, and will usually ask them "what do you fancy tonight?" Don't feel limited by the menu. If you have a special diet you need to follow, tell her. Her knowledge of cuisine will lead her to make some suggestions on what she can whip up, based on what she has in the kitchen and what happens to be good for you. Meat eaters, if you have the chance to try her Pork on a Horse, do so, it's one of the best things I've had in years. Also, check with her if you want to go on a Friday night, since she does a special International Night that features dishes from a different country each week.

Absolutely great eatery! If you love homemade, healthy food with a Venezuelan flair, you have to try D'Road cafe'!

Me and buddy decided to try this place out a couple of weeks ago and I'm glad we did. This place is by far the best service in town. The lady that owns it, Janet, is the sweetest and nicest lady. Her food was great and you can tell that it's made with some love. It's like being at Grandma's house, but your grandma is Venezuelan. I had the chicken that was in some sort of sauce and it was wonderful. I also had some carribbean rice which was unbelievable. I've never had that type of rice with peas in it, but it was great. This will be a weekly thing for me and I can't wait to try the breakfast empanada's.

Amazing food and even better atmosphere. If you've ever had a friend who's mom made you feel like one of her kids and fed you like one that is what you can expect at D'Road. I got the brisket, and my husband got the rib eye. The seasonings were unlike anything I've ever had. We got lucky on our visit and got some free dessert because the cook had made it for someone's birthday. My husband says it's the best dessert he's ever had. A pineapple cake that was gluten free as well. Wish we weren't just passing through town and could try it out on international night, where the owner steps out of her regular Venezuelan menu and puts her hand to a variety of other international delights. We will most likely find ourselves in Montgomery in the future and will add this restaurant to our must dos when we're back.

Say you're from Latin America looking for good food in Montgomery. You'll be shit out of luck for the most part, until you come to D'Road Cafe. The place is small in a large strip mall. The owner/operator is a really nice woman who comes around and takes your order by listing off what she has in the kitchen and allowing you to pick one. I can see why yelpers are so taken with this place. The owner is social and outgoing, taking time to chat up the patrons and coo at the babies. I told her to surprise me and she picked the pulled pork. The food definitely has that home-cooked feel but alas, did not produce a foodgasm. For those more interested in quantity, you'd be disappointed as the guy I was with kept talking about eating another meal after we left. The biggest thumbs-down aspect of this place is that there is NO A/C. New England with no A/C... I can see that. ALABAMA in the blazing heat of summer with no A/C?? It's borderline some sort of human rights violation. The bathroom is even more of a steam pot. We left with sweaty armpits and an uncomfortable layer of sweat on our upper lips. Trust me, am Chinese, I totally understand being environmentally conscience and wanting to save on the utilities bill and all, but under these circumstances, not providing A/C is simply not reasonable.

The atmosphere and food is amazing. They don't have a menu cause they cook fresh new items everyday. This hole in the wall restaurant is definitely worth multiple visits.

Throw out every preconceived notion you have about Latin food. The food here is authentic and made from scratch daily. The empanadas and arepas are my absolute favorite and are not like anything I have ever had. The business owner, Janet, is also the cook. She is a warm, friendly, beautiful woman that will welcome you with a smile and treat you like family. If you have not yet given this little gem a try, then you definitely have to put it in your to do list. **if you are hungry for something special and give Janet advanced notice she will accommodate you if she can.

My husband read some reviews and this place sounded interesting so we sought it out. We sort of hesitated when we got in there on a Friday night and realized that there was a set menu and it wasn't cheap. Food was okay at best. We could have had a much nicer meal for the money.

Ok, it's St. Patty's day and I'm on the road for business. I'm always looking for that place even the locals sometimes have a hard time knowing about. This is the best example of fine home cooking and an extremely warm and personal hostess/cook/dishwasher/neighbor. Janet didn't really have a printed menu - another interesting point - but she said in honor of St. Patrick's Day, she did her spin on brisket, potatoes, etc. The only other table was a table of 3 middle aged couples. They indicated in the friendliest way that I should just trust Janet. I told her to serve whatever she had as a special for the night. Started with some homemade bread and a green garlic dipping sauce. This was followed by a cole slaw - definitely not your mamma's standard cole slaw - it was just slightly creamy and very tasty. Dinner was seared & slow cooked brisket with cooked red cabbage and potatoes 3 ways (at least I think it was 3 ways). Everything was delicious. Everytime I'm back in Montgomery, I'm going to try and visit Janet and find out what she's got cooking in the back room. YUM!

Grrrrrrrreat little mom and pop!! Our first time here and we fell in love with the food and owner Janet. Every Friday is international night - tonight was Puerto Rican food which I didn't think I was going to like but it was amazing! Janet is a great cook! Next week is Swedish night so we are looking forward to going. We didn't know that on Fridays you need a reservation but Janet welcomed us with open arms tonight. Next week I'll make sure to call ahead so she knows how much to make. So glad we found this place!! If you get lost - call and you get directions. They are located in the shopping center where the Well Fargo bank is... Recommend if you are looking to feel at home.

Stop what you are doing right now and go see Janet! This place is amazing! I found it literally by accident and wow, I'm speechless. The food is reason enough to come and Janet makes the whole experience even more amazing. I don't live anywhere near here and will do whatever it takes to come back!

Just stopped here on my way back to Florida at 4:16 and no one is here. Sign says open as you can see in my picture. It's pretty upsetting when you go out of your way to find a place and get there for this to happen. I'd say call before you make a trip here. Had to be Venezuelans...

Took the family in to have dinner and just as everyone says, Janet is very nice. She seems to be one of two people working the restaurant, and can get a bit overwhelmed. When we arrived, she asked us to be seated and that she would be with us in 3-5 minutes. We had to find the menus and get the understanding that she's making basically one thing for the night. We had the paella which was fantastic and asked for a couple of empanadas. The paella for two was AMAZING, but the empanads were very bland. Perhaps had they been stuffed with a spicy meat, the cornmeal and cheese would have been a bit better. I appreciate he r making them however. All in all, the food was good and fresh and therefore a bit pricey. I imagine that she wasn't making a huge batch of paella but multiple batches to maintain quality of the mussels, etc. Due to the price, it will be a place we go to infrequently, but still worth the 4 stars given.

Some of the best, healthiest food I've ever tasted. Ms. Janet is EXTREMELY PASSIONATE about her food and she will make sure you are happy. She does not have a traditional menu. Her offerings depend on what she feels like preparing, seasonal items and what she finds when she does her shopping. Most everything she prepares in all natural. I recommend the paleo burger (all the way). I also have lunch there daily from her hot bar. Most people don't know this but you can buy a meal card (5 meals for $45 and 10 for $85) to save money. Way cheaper that buying that mail order crap and way faster than preparing it on your own. For breakfast, she loves to make omelettes. My recommendation here is to ask her to prepare it with whatever she feels like putting in there. You'll love it....trust me.
