The lunch specials are very reasonably priced. Fish tacos, livers, Shepards pie all good, and the sides are excellent. A special usually includes two sides and desert ~$7 I haven't tried the breakfast yet but they are pretty much one of the only places downtown doing a full breakfast, which I appreciate.

This place only receives 1 star because I can't give them less! My husband and I decided to try this place out for breakfast....it was awful! I ordered the Shrimp & Gouda Grits, which came out very soupy, undone and hard!!! Because they're called grits...doesn't mean they should taste as if you're chewing rocks!! And the shrimp were uncleaned. I was also provided a fork to eat what I was told was "done" grits. I have been eating grits for over 40+ yrs, and have never tasted grits this bad! My husband ordered Corned Beef Hash, which also had the consistency of soup, with hard uncooked potato cubes and nothing like Corned Beef Hash. When we sent it back to have our meals prepared a bit longer, we were met with the cook who had a horrible attitude and refused to accommodate us in any way. He stated to us (in his own words), "let's just cut this off right here...you can go somewhere else, and have a nice day!" That is not how you treat customers. However, I took no offense and it was definitely no problem to take my business elsewhere. Good luck Bob's Downtown Restaurant. I guarantee if you keep up that behavior....you won't be around long!

This was our second trip to Bob's. The first time we came for brunch (and the Bloody Mary's) and the food was okay for some pretty basic bacon and eggs. We went back looking forward to trying some other things on the menu. I ordered the corned beef hash and potatoes and my girl friend got the shrimp and grits. The grits were soupy and the shrimp was a bit less done than we'd have liked. My hash was a style I've never had before. Large bits of potatoes with a lot less corned beef than I expected. It was served in a greasy broth with the eggs on top. I'm disappointed because I really like the attitude of the staff and the atmosphere of the diner.

The Fried Butterflied Shrimp was gross - my worst takeout order of 2015! I ordered the 12 butterflied shrimp basket for pick up and got 12 small peeled but not deveined shrimp just slightly larger than a quarter. I called and spoke to Ashley who took the order and I explained that I ordered butterflied shrimp because I do not eat shrimp that had not been deveined. She said they'll replace the order and we must pick up before they close at 3pm. I had the replacement order picked up for me and I was not expecting what I saw. 12 butterflied shrimp with THE DIRT VEINS STILL ATTACHED and fried. GROSS! I WILL NEVER ORDER FROM BOB'S AGAIN!

I had only heard good things for weeks about Bob's and finally got my father to take a trip downtown with me to try the place out and I must say I was not disappointed. The food is some of the best home cooking I've had in my many years of travels. My father had the Fried chicken livers which he proclaimed the best he's ever had in his 70 years on earth. The menu selection is quite diverse as well as weekly specials. I've already returned again to try more. The food alone is reason enough to visit but the wait staff are some of the nicest most pleasant southern belles one would ever have the pleasure to meet. Make sure you get there early, they get busy quick.

Great customer service, reasonable prices, incredibly friendly staff! I had a great experience and look forward to going back soon. I had the breakfast sandwich- real bacon, piping hot.

We stumbled upon this little gem because Mobile PD had parts of Dauphin blocked off for a marathon. Lucky us! During our detour, we passed Bob's and I remembered seeing Downtown Mobile Alliance post a pic of the gumbo on Instagram, so we decided to park across the street and give it a try. We kinda loved this quaint little place from the minute we walked in the door. There are no tables, just long bars that go around the restaurant. There's a tv, lots of windows and a very friendly waitress and cook. We started with the fried green tomatoes and they did not disappoint. The hubs and I ordered fish and shrimp baskets and Spencer had the gumbo. I swear, that boy eats enough gumbo that he should be able to speak Cajun fluently. It was made with tomatoes and okra in it, and he's really not used to gumbo with tomatoes, but he liked it. All of the seafood is fresh and local. The hush puppies (quiet doggies, as I called them as a child) were made from scratch and good enough to make you want to slap your husband. I couldn't help but notice they also had a good selection of burgers and hot dogs on their menu. In fact, this business started from a hot dog cart, which they still operate. Our total bill was around $40, which is pretty good for us. The service can't be beat. We will definitely go back. If you're in the area and hungry, it's a good casual place to grab a bite to eat.

Good and affordable lunch. Specials include drink, two sides, a biscuit, and dessert. Fish tacos were $8 on the lunch special. Also our dogs were welcome & they are giant. Of course we sat outside. Nice ambience and lots of local flavor.

This is one of the few places serving breakfast in downtown Mobile that my wife and I could find. It is a small diner with your parents of a greasy spoon and the food matches the ambience. My wife had eggs and grits which were fine however they forgot the cheese that she ordered. I ordered the corn beef and hash with eggs which came out in a large soup bowl. I hadn't had the style before but it seemed overly greasy with the heavy broth.although I didn't care for it, the waitresses recommendation of a buttermilk biscuit help to deal with the broth. The service was good and the facilities were clean. There is no public restroom. Prices are low.

This place is amazing. All family owned and operated, with fantastic family recipes to feast on. I have eaten there multiple times a week (breakfast AND lunch) since they have opened and have tried multiple dishes and have always been blown away. SO. GOOD. I've brought multiple colleagues here, and my boss declared he will never eat at Mommas again. Not to mention, it's incredibly reasonably priced. Recap: great food, unbeatable staff and service, wonderful environment, and many thanks from your happy stomach and full wallet.
