Lambert’s Cafe III Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

This was our first visit to this restaurant, it was highly recommended to us by our friends that had been there before. The price was very good especially since you can get all you can eat of the pass around, which consisted of fried potatoes cabbage rolls okra things like that. On top of that the entertainment was them throwing you your dinner rolls! This is something they are famous for and it makes it fun to watch and have to catch her My husband had steak and he said it was not very good he wish he got something else. I got the meatloaf it was amazing! My daughter got fried chicken and it was totally awesome as well. Probably anything on the menu you get is OK but it's not a steak restaurant, it's down-home cooking. The wait was two hours and it was a little chaotic getting your number and then having to sit there and wait that two hours for your number to be called. That's why I did not give it a five star. Most of the restaurants in this area take your cell phone number and you receive a text when you are ready to be seated. This would be a very good thing for this restaurant to do. The texting system was new to me and I was very impressed by it wondering why more restaurants do not do that. They also do not take credit cards, they take cash and checks yes checks even out of town ones. There is an ATM on site for you to get cash out with a fee if you want. No one could tell me a clear answer as to why credit cards are not accepted All in all we will go back there again if we have the opportunity.

It's not just a restaurant, it's an experience! I am from Savannah, GA and this is better than The Lady and Sons. Yall could put The Cracker Barrel out of business if you could run this concept on a national scale. They really do throw the rolls at you. Must haves include: apple butter, apple sauce, white beans, and meatloaf.

Such a cool concept. Very crowded so you'll have to wait a while! They throw rolls at you and come around with tasty side treats. I loved it!

I ate here a long time ago when I was still in high school on a college road trip. But the one thing that I never forgot was their thrown rolls, it was very memorable. Even if you forget their name, location, and how their food taste like. You will never, ever, forget the sweet smell of their rolls. I love this place and if I ever drive pass one of their locations, I will mostly drop whatever I planned and go dine here! :)

Overall, it is quite good. We went here the other day while hitting up the outlets just to the north and if you leave hungry, it's your own fault. Seriously. You could fill up on just the rolls and pass arounds alone. About the only pass around I didn't see was the macaroni and tomatoes, which I hear is good, but they may just not have made it over to us. The chicken was also quite good. About the only complaint I have is that the waiter was pretty non-existant. Normally, I don't mind this, but when I have to wait 10 minutes for my cash to be taken for my tab, I get annoyed. It would have been much faster for me to just handle it myself. Throughout the service, he was also largely not to be found unless he was taking our order or bringing the food. Perhaps he was just stretched too thin with too many tables? If they are like their other two locations in Missouri, then those are a must visit too. Don't forget cash, as they don't take plastic. Definitely swing by if you are in the area. You won't regret doing so!

What a fantastic Restaurant, I never have seen a place like this. The food is amazing, the service is great and the throwing rolls OMG you will love it they are delicious!!!! Also the passarounds - fantastic! I can't stop saying positiv things about this place, we didn't know what to expect, and we were just blown away. Only thing you need to know is that you have to wait for a table for about minimum 30 min. because there are soooo many people who want to enjoy this special place, so make sure to go there before you're to hungry for waiting... You won't leave hungry that's for sure! So if your up for some delicious food and a amazing time - visit this place, you won't regret it I promise.

Do you want teeth-rattling sweet tea and even sweeter waitresses? Do you want someone chucking huge warm white bread rolls at your face? Do you want wonderfully rich comfort food? Do you want a down-home atmosphere? We stopped here on vacation and were fully satisfied with every bit. The sweets were extra sweet, the fats were extra fatty, and the rolls were clouds of dough heaven. I tasted and can recommend the BBQ Pork Steak, the fried okra, the Chicken Pot Pie, the Chicken Fried Steak and Gravy, the beans, the applesauce, the sweet potato, and I'm sleepy from the weight of the food, so I can't think of what else. Won't be winning any culinary awards, but will always win hearts.

I will keep this short. The detour we took, the 35 minute wait to be seated, the heat and humidity were all worth It. Every bite of delicious comfort food brought back childhood memories. I chose the meat loaf that comes with mash potatoes, I picked corn and white beans as my two sides. To make things that much better, servers walk around with extra fixins such as; potatoes and onion casserole, fried okra, and the main attraction is flying hot rolls. You signal the server and he will literally throw it across the room for you to catch. I highly recommend this place.

Good food, fun atmosphere, hot delicious rolls thrown at you, sides constantly available by passers...SO MUCH FOOD!! Come hungry!

Bread rolls - great. They were hot and tasted amazing. The food itself was cold and not very good. Next time I will buy a dozen of rolls and go home.

Fun if you're a tourist. Definitely not the best place for locals. The food is pretty good, but it's not the best. Everything's pretty basic, I suppose, to go along with the things the staff walk table to table for. It's kitschy, I guess.

Lambert's has wonderful home-cooked meals. Besides the meal, they have "pass arounds" which they carry around and invite you to try. Everything I tried was really good. Our wait was not bad but I know it is a long wait at times. The staff interacts well with customers and they make this a fun place to eat! You won't leave hungry.

Yesterday evening my friend and I headed to Lambert's because we were craving liver & onions. Well, we forgot it was Father's Day and the wait was 2 hours. Our assigned number was 187 and we had just heard 121 called. It was already 7:30pm so we decided that we'll just have to come back another day for their sautéed liver smothered with gravy and onions. I enjoy their pass around rolls & fried okra only while they're still piping hot. It is a tourist spot and fun for kids; visitors come for the novelty of the place - giant hot rolls tossed at ya if you raise your hand for it. Most entrees are All-You-Can-Eat but I don't know how it is possible to order seconds when the original plate is already more than a meal. Worth a visit if it's your first time down this way. But with the 2 hour wait, we went across to Cracker Barrel instead.

Food was amazing and service was even better!! Jazz was our server and she was thoroughly entertaining! The hot rolls are to die for. I would recommend Lamberts to anyone looking for great food and a good time. Ask for Jazz!! You won't be disappointed.

Restaurant of thrown rolls. Fun restaurant for tourists to stop by. The kids would love to catch a roll thrown at them or the practical joke the wait staff perform at their tables. Food is very hearty and huge portions. However, if you can finish your entree ... If you dare, can get a second serving free! I don't think too many people can Bc the first portion is more than enough to satisfy anyone. There are free sides that rotates around as you eat, so feel free to fill up on apple butter or potatoes and onions. Hint: The roast beef is very good. Tip: always crowded, prepare for wait time.

There's lots of history to Lambert's Cafe and you can see it displayed all over the restaurant. My group and I decided to stop in before heading back to Atlanta from volunteering for the Hangout Music Festival. Lambert's Cafe reminds me a lot of Cracker Barrel as the interior looks similar. However, I would say that Lambert's Cafe is a better version of Cracker Barrel in food and decor. Everyone in my table loved what they ordered. I opted for the Chicken Wings Entree. My entree came with three very crispy fried golden chicken wings ( three sets of wings & drums). The chicken is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. My entree also comes with my choice of two sides. I chose the mashed potatoes with gravy and corn. I loved what I had and couldn't get enough of it. I finished my entire entree without any leftovers. With your meal, you also have to option to have as many as you can -- freshly baked and warm rolls and fried okra. The servers come around in carts to hand you the pass arounds. They also provide lots of condiments on the tables and The service is great! The staff are very friendly and personable. I love that they toss warm and fresh rolls at you from where ever they are standing. They only toss it at you when you say you would like another one. I really love the atmosphere of Lambert's Cafe. At Lambert's, you really feel at home and as if you're eating with a large group of family and friends. It's really a great experience. Overall, if I'm ever in the Gulf Shores again, I would make stop here at Lambert's as everything looks so delicious and I really would like to try other menu items.

Our second visit to this location. We attempted to come here on a Friday and the line was amazingly ridiculous. We have never seen such a waiting line for a restaurant. Decided to come back another day. Came back again on a Monday. Arrived at 4pm, to avoid the crowds. Got right in and ordered. I had the roast beef plate, with mashed potatoes, corn and coleslaw. Hubby had the chicken pot pie. corn and mashed potatoes. Everything was as good as we expected. Pass arounds we went for rolls, fried onions and potatoes. We were looking forward to the boiled cabbage. But boy were we disappointed. Took a bite and almost lost it. It was the saltiest thing I've ever put in my mouth. Service was excellent as usual. Servings were large. I again had a whole meals worth of leftovers.

Lambert's is awesome. It's great for a family tradition when you go to the beach! There are a few things to know: The line can get obnoxiously long, especially on the weekend. It usually moves pretty quickly. They throw hot rolls to you throughout your meal. Each entree is accompanied by an assortment of unlimited 'hand passed' sides that are delivered throughout your meal by servers that walk around the restauraunt and include fried okra, black eyed peas, fried potatoes and onions, rolls, and a few other options. In addition to the hand passed sides, most entrees come with two traditional sides. The roast beef is amazing and the portion of meat is unbelievably huge. The gravy is really good and does not taste like a powdered gravy mix. The mashed potatoes are just okay We always leave feeling overly stuffed and fully satisfied.

  • Jennifer C.

I think this place is gross. Many of the fruit and vegetable dishes tasted like they were from a can. There is an obscene amount of food and many of the patrons are morbidly obese. There was an African American yelling "black-eyed peeeeeeeas" in a sing-song fashion that I felt was disrespectful of his race. The fried chicken was good and my 3-year-old loved the novelty of the "throwed rolls".

    (1)
  • Kim M.

Not my cup of tea. Very cramped and crowded. Not a place for the claustrophobic! Very nice staff and they deliver on what they claim. Unhealthy Southern food and lots of it!

  • Billy A.

Was on a trip last weekend. Two people had good things to say about Lambert's. We were curious to see what it was like, we bought into the whole "family owned" advertisement outside of the building. There was no waiting line, which I must say. So that is always a good thing considering it was very packed. Throwing the rolls was cool too, the stuff they pass around I'm assuming fills people up. The food; overpriced for the quality. Something like that shouldn't be so pricey, but of course they have to make up for all the food they give away. Good service, but I wouldn't go back.

    (2)
  • Laura H.

The potato lady is hilarious. The wait can be long but it is worth it for the pass around and rolls alone. We always leave with more food than we order for dinner as they let you take home some pass arounds!

  • Lisa D.

When we arrived we waited about 45 min for a table.....a long wait but worth it. This place is fun and delish. Country style food with a vintage atmosphere. Family operated with pictures of them all to prove it. Definitely liked by the whole family. We had Meatloaf, chicken and dumplings and chicken tenders as our entrees all wonderful. The fav was the chicken and dumplings though. The sides are good but the rolls stand out especially cause its thrown to you !!!

  • Ann J.

We got there 30 minutes BEFORE they opened. About 50 people ahead of us in line. Only waited about 10 minutes till they opened the doors to get us all seated. Food was great! I would say it's good ole' southern comfort food. Catching the rolls was especially fun :) My advice: Get there EARLY or you'll wait almost 2 hours. And don't order too big of a plate. They come around with free samples. I don't mean tiny bite sized samples either...you get a portion! Finally found a restaurant that serves more than my hubby can eat! haha We will most certainly dine with them again!!

  • Andy M.

Great atmosphere for the entire family plus great home cooked southern food. You can't go wrong eating here. The wait can be long but oh well it's worth it. Caution the rolls fly hot and fresh.

  • Shane L.

Tradition. For the last 25 years we have come here at least once during our week long stay. This is the case with many families. But I am giving it a 3 because it's inhumane to walk around offing people food when you haven't given them a PLATE to put anything on. I have to sit and wait for the server and then the food to come out to get sides. All the while you are hungry and have to listen incessant request to stuff then there's the old line that is stamped into everyone's memory..."oh you have to have a PLATE". Then when you get your plate of food and don't need or want any sides. Lol. The food and atmosphere are great but come on. Give a brother a plate....at least once you place your order? It doesn't have to be a big plate either just something to hold the potatoes. We've experience so my changes to the system over the years...this should definitely be the next.

This place is getting 2 stars because the staff is REALLY NICE. The food is terrible. I'm from the south, and this must be the worst food I have EVER eaten at a restaurant. Don't forget to bring cash. First, I must explain, there are sides you pick with your meal AND there are pass around, items that people come by and offer to you while you are waiting or eating. I chose the roast beef which comes with mashed potatoes w/ gravy and 2 sides. From the list I chose greens and carrots. The roast beef is highlighted on the menu as a special item so it should be good... UGH it was very fatty and nearly tasteless shredded beef... the only flavor was from the gravy on top. The potatoes tasted like they were made from powder and were also only good because of the gravy. The boiled carrots were pretty good (a bit on the sweet side) and the greens were cooked down pretty well, they were also okay. The pass arounds... Yes, they toss the rolls to you, if you look worried they'll get close and just give a little throw. The apple butter and molasses were good. The black eyed peas were nothing special. The fried okra had no flavor at all, but were nice and crispy. There were the pasta noodles with tomatoes which tasted like someone had added a ton of sugar to the bowl... I also had the fried potatoes with onions, I think I would say that was a favorite of mine. Those are all of the pass arounds I tried. God bless, I don't know why in the world anyone would wait an hour to eat this food. I went on a Monday evening so there was no wait, but really, unless the novelty of the pass arounds and thrown rolls really intrigues you... go somewhere else for your southern food, I mean even cracker barrel would be a better choice. My terrible meal: entree and iced tea set me back about $18 WTF. If anyone else wants to eat here when they visit, I'm just getting the pass around plate.

Brought the family here while on vacation on my dad's recommendation. Man he was right! Great place! We had a great time. You come in and they start by throwing yummy rolls at you! Then some fried okra to give you something to snack on. Food was all awesome. HUGE main meat portion. My wife's fried catfish was the best. All the sides were good. I loved the pass arounds. Fried potatoes and onions was my favorite. I couldn't wait to see what they would bring around next. Be prepared to take food home! Prices are very good for what you get. Very affordable with kids. We loved Lamberts and will be back!

Usually When I come down here for vacation I'm all about seafood and seafood only! But this is an exception. Soooo good. If you like Great home cooking you will love this place! It's a must try. You will be happily miserable before you leave, I promise. They throw rolls and bring around all kinds of free sides to try while you wait and why you eat.

  • Catherine F.

Love their chicken fried steak!! The wait can be long in the summer and its very hot and loud with the music, but a wonderful spot not during tourist season.

  • Danielle P.

We went in the middle of the day to try and avoid a long wait. Waited for 1.5 hrs. Atmosphere is fun. There is plenty of food and you do not go away hungry. The fried chicken and the rolls were very good. The ribs were over cooked. A little disappointing and we have made this our annual stop.

    (3)
  • Dezmond P.

There is nothing special about the food, if you're into comfort food you're set. The atmosphere is a bit stuffy, and it feels as if they don't wash their dishes right. But overall it's a cool thing to have your rolls tossed to you.

    (3)
  • Josh W.

What an amazing place to eat. After waiting around 45 minutes, we were seated. Not long after that, rolls were flying our way. The food is southern comfort style and all 8 of us absolutely loved it. The pass arounds were incredible. Okra seemed to be the table favorite, but the fried potatoes, black eyed peas, boiled cabbage, and macaroni and tomatoes all hit the spot. The prices were very fair for the amount of food received. The atmosphere and serving method make this place truly one of a kind. Only go here if you are super hungry. We can't wait to return to this restaurant.

    (5)
  • Hope R.

A must if you've never been before! Very different from any other place around town and the amount of food served is worth the price you pay! Great southern food and atmosphere but be ready to catch a roll if you lock eyes with the person that's throwing them! It's fun and the whole family will enjoy plus have a good laugh or two while there!

    (5)
  • Randy P.

Food was good. Service was good, after 5 different servers come by. Personally I would rather enjoy my meal with my family or friends, instead of ducking rolls or declining or accepting food from a bucket or the gags along the way. I can say, been there done that now. $30.00 for 2 meals. Get there early.

    (4)
  • Chris L.

What a fun experience for the whole family. It was worth the 30-45 minute wait to get into the building. The service was great and food was really good. The "throwed rolls" were amazing!! This will be our first stop when we come back on our next vacation.

Awesome place to be here I didn't expect that we'll be solo goooood Hmmmmmm Yammmmmmmmmmy The rolls are the best hot ,fluffy and yamy Don't forget to try I won't forget you Lambert's Cafe

  • Jesse B.

The food is great, loved the throwing of the rolls, portion sizes are huge. The staff was great and even though we had to wait 45 min for a table, they were right on with their estimate and there is stuff to do outside that makes it seem shorter. Only 3 stars because not accepting credit cards in 2015 is totally unacceptable. Plus, there was an arrogance that I felt all over the place. The prices in the gift shop, the "you break it, you buy it" sign, the no credit cards, and the $7 kids menu. Maybe I'm being picky but clearly this place is making tons of money, seems like the could loosen up.

  • Jeremy S.

Great ambiance, very fun restaurant when they are busy. Home style cooking similar to Cracker Barrel. Big portions and plenty of options. I had the fried chicken wings and they were great, cooked expertly very moist and flavorful. The sides I had, corn and green beans, were a little bland. The corn was very sweet, almost like they put too much sugar in it. The rolls were hot and soft as always, and the molasses was a perfect a compliment. Drinks are served in large mugs with free refills. Kids can get a balloon, and they have neat wooden trains out front that the kids can play on, very entertaining if you do have to end up waiting. Be sure to get there early or an off time if you don't want to wait 2+ hours. Also be sure to bring you cash or a check as they do not accept credit cards. They do have ATM's if you are caught without either. Save a little time to browse their gift shop where you can purchase a souvenir mug like the ones they serve your drinks. I use mine for outdoor chores and mowing grass! This is a "must visit" in the Gulf Shores area. I know it's not seafood but you will not be disappointed!

  • Jessica M.

The portion sizes are very large. All 7 in our party needed a take home box. The rolls are excellent. For as busy as the place is, the service was good.

Some of the best food around. Had the hamburger steak baked beans. Best baked beans ive had in a long time. Wait was an hour and a half on a monday but did not feel very long they move very fast.

We enjoyed our third trip to a Lambert's! We have been to the other 2 restaurants and would rate this one second of the three. It is a fun experience, we ate too much but it is good comfort food. We enjoyed the fried chicken and the chicken and rice (which was the special for the day), there is always enough for another meal. Everyone should go at least once! ALERT, they do not take credit cards so, cash or check only!

  • Matt G.

Terrific family environment that's great for large groups! With 3 large dining areas, families are seated quickly. Their gift shop and large waiting areas help pass the time until you eat. It's a laid back environment where the staff is always friendly, the food is always filling, and Rolls are flying! Great for any age!

  • Janelle M.

Great variety, delicious food, fun waitstaff! Only downside is a long line but once you're inside you see why, it's so worth it! We waited for an hour at 3pm on a Wednesday for just 2 people! Chicken fingers and throwed rolls is a sure win! Only had the fried okra and fried potatoes, both were excellent. Okra was breaded well and not slimy. Fried potatoes were delish, better than the mashed! Fries and beans were good too. I could drown my food in the chicken fried steak gravy!

So I have been here several times and have yet to write a review. So what made me decide to write a review now? I had a dream about the Ribs and the Rolls. NO JOKE. This place is a must if you are anywhere in the area. And yes, it is absolute worth the long wait. Whether you come with a party of 2 or a party of 10 I guarantee you will have a blast. This southern home cookin' has options that can satisfy any palate! Tip- if you are an uptight, snooty customer, this is NOT the place for you! I'll tell ya why... Part of the fun atmosphere of this restaurant is that they will pull little pranks on you and your table. (i.e. "Squirt" mustard on you, "spill" a tub full of dishes on you, "spill" a pitcher of iced tea on you...) Hilarious for the first- timers! Another amazing part of the Lambert's dining experience is that they come around with a big mama pot of fixin's and you can have as much as your little heart desires. Fried okra, taters, and soo many others. Mmm. One of the highlights of it all; Lambert's famous thrown rolls. An adorable bread boy comes out of the back yelling "Hot Rolls!" and will literally throw the roll to you. So fun! Hands up, head up if not you'll catch those rolls right in the face (& yes, I speak from experience :) My go to dish is always their ribs with a side of their amazing Mac n cheese and spiced apples. (Currently drooling!) But everything I've seen, smell, or tasted has always been awesome. Another tip- they do not split plates! So come hungry! I PROMISE, you'll leave happy.

If you love Cracker Barrel you will give this restaurant 5 stars because it is Cracker Barrel to the 10th degree. I guess that one should always be concerned when there is a sign on the door that says, "MICROWAVES IN USE." Geez, what does that mean? As a food snob I would normally run when I see a sign such as this but my family wanted to experience the "throwed rolls." After an hour wait outside we waited 20 minutes inside before being seated. As soon as we were seated a worker came by with a bowl of fried okra. Of course, you had to accept and they put the okra on paper towels since our waitress had not come by. Next, the roll pitcher was present and he tossed us some yeast rolls, The rolls were standard yeast rolls but they did not have much character. The waitress appeared and we ordered fried chicken with the usual side dishes, roast beef platter and the usual mashed potatoes with brown or milk gravy. The chicken was a bit greasy for my taste but the mashed potatoes were good. The roast beef was stewed and tasty. Nothing on the menu is healthy. Overall, if you love Cracker Barrel make the trip to Lamberts. If you are a food snob don't waist your time or money. The other big problem for me was that they did not serve liquor but did serve every soft drink and what I was told was good sweet tea in 32 oz mugs. Restaurants like this are why our country is in such bad health. The food is comfort food for so many but it is time to eat healthy and forgo unhealthy food. Let go of comfort and choose health.

We heard about Lambert's from a show on the food network and definitely want to give it a try. When we checked in with the hostess there was about a 15 minute wait which we were told is not too bad for Lambert's. It is a very interesting concept, and yes they do throw dinner rolls to you. I ordered the chicken fried steak and my wife ordered the roast beef. My wife had a water to drink and I ordered a Coke which was served in what looked like a 1 Liter cup. While you're waiting for your food, there are people going around with "pass arounds" which are various side dishes that they provide for free. I do have to say the dinner rolls are amazing and are worth the trip by themselves. By the time your dinner comes, which the portions are huge, you have already eaten a roll and sampled on some side dishes you were not really that hungry for your main meal. My chicken fried steak was delicious as were the side dishes that I ordered. My wife's roast beef was so tender and tasty that I will probably get it next time. Our dinner portions were so large we ended up taking half of them home along with a couple rolls for a meal the next day. You definitely need to experience Lamberts for the atmosphere, food, and amazing dinner rolls. However, we would be as big as a house if we ate there on a regular basis and I'm not talking a little house.

Come with your appetite! If you leave here hungry you didn't order enough. The inside is full of eclectic items for your eyes to gaze upon. The pass around are enough for a meal but you came here to be a glutton anyway. If your trying to be healthy, you came to the wrong place. Don't forget the jones butter for your rolls and get a jar at the gift shop on the way out. All in all, unbutton your pants and dive in.

We're from Missouri and we've been to the other two Lambert's locations. While we were in the area we thought we should complete the trifecta and have a meal at Lambert's III. The food is decent, the rolls are awesome, the wait to be seated was long (for lunch on a weekday no less). I'd come early for dinner. We ended up walking over to the Home Depot to kill time as there was no where to sit and wait. At least the waiting area is shaded. We really wanted to check out the gift shop but there were so many people in there (probably killing time waiting the hour and a half for a table) that you couldn't even get in. Our waitress was awesome and played a couple of gags on us. My kids are still talking about them!

Went there Monday to eat lunch and at 12:00 there was already an hour wait. Went to Cracker Barrel with no wait.

Love Lambert's Cafe on the way in or out of Orange Beach. Because of the long wait, often we just keep driving so we probably only eat here 50% of the time that we try. Food is good and we love the pass arounds. Fried okra and chicken and dumplings are yummy! If you have left overs and are taking your meal to go, ask for your favorite pass-arounds before the box comes. For obvious reasons, they won't give you a scoop into your go-box. They only accept checks and cash so be ready.

Great food! Great time! Watch out for flying rolls!! My wife and I took our 5 children to dinner and made it out still having money in our pockets. We were very happy about our dining experience. I recommend you eat here if you have the chance!!

It's as good as soul food there is not much to explain just go there it's soo good. The service is great and they really stuff you up. This place is so much better than any place in my state of Kentucky. All of the passarounds here are delicious and just keep on coming. I personally love chicken and dumplings and eating lamberts chicken and dumplings made me not want to eat any but theirs. There cups for soda are huge and you can buy them at their neat little gift shop for some lamberts merchandise. The wait may be long but you can look in the gift shop to entertain yourself. But trust me the wait is so worth it. Not to mention all of the stuff they have on their walls is really neat to look at. I found about 8 license plates from my state of Kentucky. I hope you can find yours too! So overall I gave this place a five stars because it's mentally impossible in my opinion to find something wrong with this restaurant.

Not only was the food great but it was a lot of fun, from the throwing of rolls to the staff playing "tricks" on you. My daughter ordered chicken and dumplings, they were not creamy like she is used to, but they were happy to exchange them for something else. Go hungry, you get a ton of food! The wait was long, but worth it!

Although the food was average, I gave four stars for the unbeatable atmosphere and original experience we got at Lamberts. We ended up doing what we saw a lot of old people around us doing and that is load up on the sides they come around with and take a generous portion of your ordered dinner home. I loved the black eyed peas and of course the rolls with Apple butter. The chicken wings were OK.

This was such a fun experience paired with delicious southern food. The servers played a few tricks on us, a roll was thrown right at us, and the servings were plentiful. I had no complaints! My husband and I had chicken friend steak and it was one of the best we have had. The story of the business is really interesting too.

Very good food in huge portions. Definitely a must visit place once! Get the fried steak and you I'll not be disappointed!

Delish! We've eaten at the Ozark, MO location and figured we should try out the Foley, AL location. Loved it! The food was great and the staff was a blast. I ordered the Chicken Fried Round Steak with mashed potatoes, collared greens, and baked beans - it was perfect! My wife had the Roast Beef. My daughter had the BBQ Ribs. The fried okra and the skillet potatoes that they "passed around" were incredible. Of course, heads up... Watch out for delicious hot rolls thrown your way!

  • Lina T.

I don't come to Foley often but everytime I've been there this is the place to stop. My whole trip is spent looking forward to eating here. One of my best friends and I were off one weekend and drove in for the beach. We starved ourselves until after the beach to stop by. I missed the busy atmosphere and watching a roll of bread fly across the room. One guy sitting diagonally from me caught a fast one. I could hear the impact as he caught it. It was awesome. I had to stop myself after one bread to save room for my entree. We had some fried okra to snack on as well. My fried chicken dish was delicious. I have never seen or had a drumstick that big before. I got three good sized pieces of friend chicken and the side of corn and mash potatoes was beyond amazing. Sitting here writing this review I'm drooling and instantly want to be back there. Hoping for another time I can stop by and dine there again! And luckily we left the beach when we did because the time we left the line was out the door. When we had gotten there we were the only people in line and was seated immediately. So watch the days you go because it seems like they are usually busy but maybe if you go at a certain time you might get lucky like we did.

  • Sean T.

The line was long, but the reason is oblivious. Everything very good, service was outstanding, and a great atmosphere. The pass around stuff is "free" because it's really nothing to brag about. Price is slightly higher than I would expect, but the large portion makes up for this. Will go back every time we visit the Alabama Gulf Coast.

Great family place to eat. This is the home of the thrown rolls. They give you tons of food along with sides that are brought around. They do not accept cards; only cash or checks. They have two ATMs on site. Extremely friendly staff. They serve great southern home foods.

  • Jason N.

This is a stop for us every trip to Orange Beach, every year (and sometimes on the way out too!) our server the last two times was Crystal and she is by FAR the best of ANY place we've ever eaten! The line to get in isn't usually ever short but that's because they feed like 5,000 people a day (lol)... The food is generous, fresh, prompt, and as southern as it gets. The decor in the restaurant is alone worth the trip there because it's a trip back into history and just really neat and thoughtfully done. This place is a 6 out of 5 to my whole family, a tradition for sure

  • Cynthia S.

They accept cash only and I think checks.... There is an ATM inside. My family and I love going to Lamberts when we are in the area. The wait is worth it, good food and it's a fun place! The wait IS EXPECTED! Unless you go when they first open up for the day then you will see about 20-30 folks. You get plenty of food! Unlimited pass arounds, and fresh hot thrown rolls! It's a fun place all around but if you lack patience, go early.

5-19-15 home style food, in my opinion better than Cracker Barrel. They throw rolls, pass sides, atmosphere is a lot of fun! Food is superb! We had lunch so didn't have to fight supper crowd. Servers are energetic and efficient. Highly recommend!

  • Kellie K.

We loved the food. It was excellent and more food than anyone should eat. We decided to do an early lunch getting there around 11 and the wait was still long. It is worth the wait. My teenage boys loved the atmosphere with the roll throwing. We had a blast together and will stop again.

  • Caleb S.

Herd and read a lot of mixed reviews on this place but we went as a family for vacation and had a blast! The food and atmosphere did not disappoint for sure. The throwed rolls were fun and delicious. I personally got the BBQ Pork sandwich and it was fantastic. Everyone one in our group enjoyed their meal. If I'm ever around one of these restaurants again, I'll be sure to go back!

Wow ate at Lambert's 7-17. Wait was bad but the food was great just like my mother used to cook. They passed around fried potatoes okra peas and macaroni & tomatoes. Then heads up and rolls fly through the air. Our waiter was friendly and kept us fed and watered. When I thought it couldn't get better they brought apple butter and molasses for the hot rolls. This fat girl was in Heaven. Only thing is we need to find a way not to have to wait 2 hours.

  • Andy M.

I give 'em a four. But, how does one keep them from serving us more food than we can eat there?? Next time I go there with my wife, we'll try ordering just one meal, and splitting it between us. Maybe they'll split it for us, or just bring us an extra empty plate. It would be worth asking if one can order half-sized portions. Or, if adults can order a child's plate.

I have been to this Lambert's and the one in Ozark Missouri, but this one is my absolute favorite. Unfortunately, since I live about 16 hours away I can only come when we visit family, about once a year which is my only negative. I always get the chicken fried steak with the gravy on the side. Its so much better because it stays crispy and you can dunk it in the gravy. The rolls are probably the number one reason I come. Yes, they are that good. I always have my husband catch them for me. Between the rolls and the passarounds, you should NEVER leave hungry. I do wish that there were more stalls for the restrooms, believe me they need it with how many people come. Be warned to get there early! The wait time can reach over 2 hours. We once went on a Sunday and were there about 10 minutes before they officially opened and still had about an hour wait. Also, be aware they will not seat you until your entire party is present( it doesn't matter if dad just had to run to the car real quick, they will not seat you until he's there). Don't forget to visit the gift shop on your way out and you can buy your own huge Lambert's mug and the cinnamon rolls are always good for breakfast the next day?

  • David N.

Good home cooking! Lots of food to go around! The kids loved the rolls! Prices were affordable but bring cash as that don't accept plastic of any kind. Get there before 5pm or expect to wait at least 1 hour but don't worry - time flies and the food is well worth the wait!

  • Evangeline T.

Delicious rolls with apple butter, pass around fried okra, fried potatoes, chicken fried steak with coleslaw, cucumber & onions, baked sweet potato, salmon patties with applesauce, peaches, kids cheeseburgers, fries & baked beans! Great service!

  • Jason J.

This restaurant is okay at best. It's definitely not worth the hour and a half wait time. The line is SUPER long and nobody knows the wait time. The restaurant is really large and it's great for families with kids. The location is really good being that it's off the main st and there are other eaters around you. The food is very average but the concept is really nice. They actually throw their homemade rolls to you like a football. It's great entertainment for the kids and adults when they're throwing those rolls across the room. NOTE: the rolls are very large and fresh. Also, the staff walks around with pops of different side items, asking everyone do you want to try it. You will have leftovers. The service is pretty good and everyone one seems to have a good time. Will I go back? Only if there's nobody in line.

  • Joshua W.

Sigh...I guess the old saying is true. Things aren't always as you remember them. I loved this place as a kid and was excited to try it again after many years. Now, I'm not a "food snob" by any stretch of the imagination and maybe it's just what I got, but this was one of the worst meals I've had in a while. The wait was just around 10-15 minutes, so it wasn't bad and our server was nice. The rolls were very good, as was the okra, but my main dish and pretty much everything that went with it was awful. I got the BBQ Pork Steak with corn, greens and cornbread. The portions were huge, of course, but the pork had a weird "plasticky" flavor to it, like they had used liquid smoke. The corn was unbearably sweet. I barely touched two bites of it. I mean, this stuff was just absurdly sweet, as if they just dumped a bunch of sugar in it. The greens were the only decent thing on the plate, as the cornbread had sugar in it, which is a big no-no for me. Overall, it was just a huge disappointment for me. I loved the place as a kid and this was just a big let-down. I suppose if you've never been, you should go for the experience at least once. Hey, maybe you'll have better luck than me. Otherwise, you're probably better off at the Cracker Barrel.

Visited during the holidays while traveling to New Orleans. Well worth the 25 minute detour. The service was great and the food was awesome!!!

  • Dave C.

The service was fast and extremely polite. The food was good and they will pack you completely full with pass arounds. The rolls are hot and flying at you as soon as you want one! The gentleman with the apple butter and molasses was on point. Definitely a place that showcases southern food and hospitality. The only reason I am at 4 stars is because it is a cash only establisment. A slight inconvenience, but if you are prepared it is not an issue. Great for families and groups. I recommend going g to Lamberts if you are near one, you will leaved stuffed and happy with the service.

When we got there (about 7PM), it looked like there were 100 people waiting outside. We were told about 1 hour wait (they were pretty spot on). Figured it was worth it and we were right. Yes, they do literally chuck rolls at you. From across the room. With pretty good aim. Don't worry, they also come around with more. :) What a great idea to serve the drinks in huge mugs. The place was packed and the last thing a server is going to want to mess with is refilling drinks. I also don't like waiting for refills. As soon as you sit down, servers start coming around with dishes of food to put on your plate, or napkin if you haven't gotten there yet. We got fried okra (amazing!) and rolls on napkins. I had the chicken tenders and they were excellent! I also had a side that came around of potatoes and onions. Buttery goodness. There is an option to buy a plate and eat the food that comes around. I might do that next time. It all looked delish and I was so full! Bring your appetite because you'll need it! Also bring cash, because they don't accept cards or checks, but there is an ATM machine in the front. Great atmosphere, we had a great time! Already planning a special trip to their location in MO... :)

This place was super busy when we got there but it was worth the hour wait! Everyone was so friendly. Our waiter was absolutely wonderful. I think his name was David. Very friendly and fun but also very attentive and thorough. All of the people working there kept a very friendly and upbeat attitude and that was so great! And everything they served was just damn delicious. There are sooooooo many delicious pass arounds, and they pass you very frequently so there's no worry. Same with the rolls, they were tossed into our dining room about 3-4 times in a matter of 40 minutes. So great.

My mom, boyfriend, and i ate here for dinner. It was a first for all of us. It took me a minute to grasp the concept, but once I did, I was very pleased. Seriously, who doesn't love FREE sides? We all ordered the friend chicken, but with some-what different sides. Mom got corn, which she says was sweet but good, as well as, mashed potatoes. I got green beans & mashed potatoes. They were both good, but mom and I agreed that they could have added more gravy. My boyfriend got green beans and i think mashed potatoes as well. As far as, the FREE sides....we all loved their cabbage. The okra was your typical fried okra. I tried their macaroni and tomatoes and i thought it was pretty good, but my boyfriend wasn't too impressed. My mom is the quiet and shy type, but she had fun catching a roll or 2 and the little harmless pranks that they played. The rolls were sooo soft and warm...like heaven. Overall, I was very pleased with the food and our waitress was very attentive and a doll. Lambert's Cafe is definitely worth the experience. OH! By the way, keep in mind this place closes at 8:00PM, which doesn't appear to be posted anywhere. So don't be late.

Love this place. Great food, free flying rolls! And other sides. Fried okra and apple butter are amazing. Prepare for a wait, anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours. Yes that is a very long wait and yes it is worth it. You will leave full and happy. This place has great history. Great for groups and kids. Friendly staff. Remember that you cannot pau with plastic, check or cash only. That's another part of the charm!

Good food...long wait....crabby guests. Learn the terminology...."pass arounds" are the sides that are brought around by the servers...they come with the meal and are complementary and are in addition to the regular sides that might come with your meal. The throwed rolls are the same. Neither the Rolls, pass arounds, or table condiments may be taken home with your other leftovers. If you do you are a thief. The only criticisms..... Lack of care with entrees ....cooked like they were an after thought and over cooked.... ( I had the pork chops) Mashed potatoes were awful, cold and beaten until starchy. The booth areas are dimly lit and menus hard to see. To the restaurant .....The line system for waiting feels akin to an amusement park ride....got to be a better way...check with Olive Garden and Red Lobster for ideas. To the restaurant......Less maybe more...I would see if reducing some of the seating capacity to make for a more comfortable eating experience. (May not be possible) but just feels a little claustrophobic. To the restaurant....At your prices...you can afford to take debit and credit...or at least offer with a 3 percent surcharge. OVERALL WORTH IT FOR THE EXPERIENCE. ...but I would only do this 2x a year at these prices for food quality being what it is...

This place is amazing! It is my favorite restaurant ever and I am really hoping we can eat here again someday! We waited over an hour to be seated on a Friday night but it was worth it for the tasty food! Our waiter was nice, nothing exciting and he wasn't very outgoing, but he was helpful! I had the fried chicken and my husband had the chicken and dumplings. The food was very good, the corn and rolls were my favorite items! I drool just think about the rolls and the corn! Yum!

There was a really long wait but that's just because the food was excellent and the service was great too! It's a great family restaurant and has entertaining service with the waiters throwing rolls to you when you want one and playing little tricks on you. I highly recommend this as a must go place.

Well, I do not want to discourage people from going here. Since Shoney's fell off of the map were else can you get two days' worth of calories in one sitting??? This is a very fun place for very hungry people. They do not serve alcohol (I don't think), but tea and water are delivered by the pitcher. The food is HUGE. And it is not all that bad. Think of a country truck stop with a meat-and-three and you have the concept. If you haven't been to the first Lambert's in MO, be prepared. The service is good, but people WILL spread out a napkin in front of you and dump okra, potatoes and anything else in front of you s part of the experience. The showmanship (including the rolls that can be handed to you instead of thrown) is included in the cost of the meal, which is pretty reasonable. No matter what I always feel very heavy and weak after eating here. A pork chop order will actually not fit on a dinner plate.Go ahead and have your one weekend meal - just make sure the condo is cold and the bed is waiting for you.

I have to give it a 5 stars. We had 11 in our group. We only waited 15-20 minutes to be seated. I know that can be longer. We lucked up. We all enjoyed our food. But we love country food. I know some have compared it to Cracker Barrel food! And that's ok. Cause we like their food too.. All the kids had a great time having the rolls thrown to them. You'd thought they were at a Mardi Gras parade trying to get beads. LoL!;) I loved our waiter he was very good an playful with the whole family! Well defiantly go back! Any place that the kids enjoy an are able to have a good time. Is a great place for us.. And again we all enjoyed our food which ranged from Chicken & dumplings,Cheeseburgers,Smoked pork loin & hamburger steak. There was ABSOLUTELY NO COMPLAINTS AT OUR TABLE! Only very full people! I thought it was very reasonably priced also... So if your looking for country cooking an family friendly atmosphere? This place is for you!;)

  • Stephanie C.

A must stop, even if you eat the"pass around" alone! The atmosphere is exciting for the young as well as the old. Watch out a hot roll may come flying by! I always expect a wait but it's always worth it, to get the down home cooking inside!

Lambert's is huge. Lambert's is busy - quite often featuring a 45 to 90 minute wait. The experience at Lambert's is one you won't forget. "Home of the Throwed Rolls" and they mean it. They will, literally, throw rolls at you (if you ask for one). Which is interesting. The food at Lambert's is just ok. Some items were good (roast beef), some items were very bland (most of the side items, also called "pass arounds"), and some items were extremely salty (chicken pot pie). Portion size is EXTREMELY generous. My wife ordered the Chef Salad in a bread bowl. The entire entree could feed a family of 4 for 3 days. The side items or "pass arounds" are endless. They will provide you as much as you want. For my taste, I wouldn't go back to Lambert's as I'm not a huge fan of this kind of food, and it's like eating in the middle of a Theme Park. However, if you're looking for a very unique experience, and are a fan of country food, then Lambert's will not disappoint. Lambert's does not accept credit cards. They only accept cash or personal check.

  • Chris F.

2 hour wait for bland, greasy food. Also, the waiter and most staff were not very pleasant and acted like they would have wanted to be anywhere else. There was an older gentleman whose personality and kindness when coming around with the sides warranted the only star here.....I wish I could have given only him the tip.

    (1)
  • Monica T.

I had the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans for my entree. I tried the macaroni and tomatoes pass around (too sweet), the okra (delicious), black eyed peas (bland), and potatoes and onion (yummers). It was a whole lot of fun dashing to catch hot rolls :-) Overall, the food was just ok, the wait was too long so I give it three stars!

    (3)
  • Bubba S.

The excitement was building as they tossed me a roll....the food was ok but the pass outs topped it all!!! What a great family fun atmosphere that makes ya want to come back for more! The portions were big and the sweet tea was great in a huge cup...

    (4)
  • Matthew K.

Home of the Throwed Rolls. This is a fun family restaurant where the portions are big, so you better come with an even bigger appetite. This is a good place to stop if you're coming to or from the beach. Everything I've tried here is good, including the sweet tea. The rolls are my favorite thing about this place and are no doubt the draw that brings people in. They are delicious, huge, and they throw them at you. They are hot, so don't feel bad if you drop one. We've all been there! I love the little dishes they bring around to the tables for you to try. Sometimes they even have prank surprises like fake ketchup being spilt on you. This is great fun for kids. The decor reminds of me cracker barrel, with little odds and ends being all over the wall for you to look at. Very cool. Overall I've always had a great experience coming here and always make it a point to stop here after leaving the beach.

I visited this restaurant for the first time and overall I enjoyed most everything about this place. First Impression: This place is huge, and that seems to be the general theme for the restaurant - big place, big servings, big line out the door! We came on a Thursday night and they still had an hour wait to be seated, although normal for a party of 7. Aside from the weird rebel flag memorabilia, which is to be expected this deep in the south, the restaurant felt very warm and welcoming. The food. Our table ordered a smoke pork steak, a charbroiled chicken, the Ceasar salad, two pulled pork sandwiches, the chicken pot pie, a kid's shrimp basket and a kid's hamburger. The food was fine, but the pass arounds and throwed rolls are what really makes the meal experience. As I stated earlier, the portions are huge so keep that in mind when ordering. The service: Our table was immediately attended to in spite of the large crowd, which was really great. The service seemed to come in stages - first the drinks, then some pass arounds, and finally the food order. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. I really enjoyed the fake ketchup gag and the fake pitcher of soda spilling our waitress pulled on my mother-in-law! Some cheese with that whine: The restaurant was absolutely freezing and we had to leave sooner than we'd hoped because no one could stand it any longer, so that was kind of a bummer. The other thing is that they only accept cash. Luckily we knew ahead of time so we knew to hit up a bank first but I could see this being an issue for an unprepared customer. Tl; dr - Okay southern comfort food, entertaining theme and decor, good service, bring a sweater just in case, and definitely bring cash.

  • Jane D.

Great service, decent prices, fun atmosphere, mediocre food not worth the wait. The fried chicken was crisp and not too greasy, but really lacked flavor. Same with chicken fried steak and chicken livers. Green beans were straight out of the can. Neither they nor the greens had any ham or bacon, making them pretty flavorless. Baked beans were decent, and the mashed potatoes were real. If you're going to eat food that's this bad for you, it should taste like Grandma cooked it. This did not, unless your Grandma didn't have a clue how to season food

    (2)
  • Brooke A.

Ewww, gross. The food is horrible. Service is fast and friendly. Atmosphere fun, but dirty. Seriously, throw a roll worth eating at someone on your own time and skip this place!

    (2)
  • Georgia H.

Note: they do not take credit cards. They accept checks and cash, an ATM is on site. This is just fun. The food is good 'home cooking' and there's plenty of it. If you leave hungry, it's your own fault. The tea is very good. It's noisy, kids everywhere and did I mention noisy? It's not a place for coffee and conversation. You eat, you leave. It's a dining experience that you shouldn't miss. Menu has enough variety to make everyone happy. And.....of course, throwed rolls.

    (3)
  • M B.

Good food and really good service. Really friendly staff. We always enjoy the home cooked meals. We will be back for sure.

  • Pete F.

It's been on the Food channel and it is all they say it is. Great food and lots of it. As you eat they continue to walk around with sides if vegetables and other items. You will not leave there hungry. There claim to fix me is the fresh tolls that are thrown your way as the walk around the place. Good size place.

    (4)
  • Mark B.

Bring cash or a checkbook. They do not take credit cards! There is an ATM on the premises if you forget. This place is a lot of fun. We bring the kids here every time we are in the area. It's good, "down home" fare with a lot of fun thrown in. Speaking of throwing, if you want a fresh hot roll, just hold up your hand and they will throw you one. Throughout the meal, employees come by every few minutes with what they call "pass-a rounds" side items in a big pot that they will heap generously on your plate as many times as you like. You CAN NOT leave this place hungry. It takes a tremendous amount of will power to avoid getting so full you can barely walk to your car. Everybody in our party liked their entrees. I particularly recommend the roast beef or the chicken and dumplings. But be prepared to wait. We arrived very early, about 4:30 in the afternoon, and there was already a half hour wait for a table. By the time we left a little after six, the waiting area was overflowing and the parking lot was crowded with folks waiting for a table.

  • Danny B.

Was just 'OK'... We went for the experience, around 11:30, waited an hour, which is expected from a tourist trap. After being seated, our waiter decided to bring our 10 year old a large cup and the 8 and 3 year old small cups... Mistake #1.. Obviously he didn't have kids, otherwise he would've brought big cups to all of them. Mistake #2... Throwed rolls. It helps if the guy bringing the rolls actually appreciates what we're here for.. The tall guy just handed them to us, didn't really care about the experience, and obviously cared less about his job.. Skip this place, go to Chik-Fil-A next door... the food is probably better, and the service and experience much better.

    (2)
  • Mark H.

OK, admittedly I normally do not go to a "meat and potatoes" type place when I'm at the gulf. Lambert's came recommended more for the experience than the food, and that I think is rather accurate. The food, while not terrible, was average and was what it was - huge portions, unseasoned, and just kinda bland. The highlight was watching the kids catch the rolls when they brought the cart around. I will say, the service was excellent, and the staff we encountered were very friendly. What saved this from two stars was the kids enjoying their time there and enjoying their entrees more than I did. If the kids want to come back next year, I will certainly take them, but if they don't mention it....neither will I.

  • Shannon L.

Fun dinner experience! The food was good, but even better was the way they served dinner. Throwed rolls, free sides, giant mugs of tea and coffee. Great service and good for birthdays. They know how to handle long waits and big groups... we all enjoyed and left stuffed!

  • Anne C.

Never. Ever. Again. Positives: The service at our table was good. The rolls are tasty. Negatives: The food was all incredibly unhealthy. And people line up for it. We waited an hour, and it was so not worth it. I ordered a round steak, and when it arrived I realized it was fried--this was not in the menu description. Oh well. It didn't taste bad, but there was definitely nothing to write home about. Also, out of the large list of passed sides, only 3 (okra, macaroni/maters and cabbage) came our way. I heard the white beans were good, I promise you I will never know because I'm not going back. I went up to where they were doing announcements and asked them if they could celebrate a birthday for someone at our table. They looked annoyed that I had come up and told me to tell my waitress. When I advised that I was trying to keep it a secret, they had me write down the message on a piece of paper...it was never announced, so that was a nice fail on their part to follow up. If you like an extreme excess of really unhealthy food, go to Lamberts. I mean even their salad comes in a bread bowl large enough to feed 6-8.

  • Andy D.

Is this the last of the great novelty restaurants or the first of ones that succeeded. Lambert's is truly a success. I expected there roll's to be sizzling across my head like canon fire, instead there generally tossed to you from a safe distance. But, there rolls are light and airy. Lambert's menu items are country style, meaning there big, the word diet is not a Lambert word, you leave stuffed. Items on the menu include Fried Chicken, Chicken n Dumplings, Pot Roast, Ribs and Meat Loaf, I had the meat loaf and my friend had the chicken n dumplings. Both were excellent, but I think his was just a little bit better. Alas that's not all. The staff carries around food items such as black eye peas, fried okra and cabbage for you to try. It's well run, well organized and the food was good, ambiance eeehhhh, it's a family restaurant, you'll have a good time. On a negative note, the bathroom was dirty, but they were busy too.

Don't understand the hype behind this place, food was average but I guess the atmosphere is what makes it.

Portions are ridiculous, who can eat that much!?!? Chicken and dumplings was AMAZING!!! Black eyed peas were also really good. You can't forget about the rolls!

My family and I went on a vacation to the gulf shores. We wanted to try it. You do see flying rolls! but over all the food was good. The customer service was great, even though it was a bit crowded and busy. Over all we enjoyed our lunch. If we ever vacation around there again. I would love to go again.

A great example of home cooked meals. I am from Missouri, and this food reminded me of what I ate growing up. Definitely soul food all the way. Portions were enormous! I would recommend this diner to anyone looking to take their family out for a good meal, and great experience.

We happened to be in Mobile, AL and along the road we ran into Lambert's. We were like "hey is that that one place where they throw the rolls at you?" IT SURE WAS!!! Named by the travel channel as One of the Best Places to "pig out"....it surely was! They have endless sides that keep coming out to your table and the "hot rolls" they throw at you are a hoot! We went on a saturday night so it was packed and it was fun since there were a ton of people there. If you want to eat, eat, eat, this is the place to go.

We're in the South now! Lambert's was on our list to visit. Very glad we went early...even at 4 on a Monday afternoon in October, the place was filling up! We expected HOT ROLLS and we got 'em. Thrown from across the room or right by your table, they are huge, piping hot goodness waiting for your choice of butter, apple butter or molasses. Our entrees were yummy..pork chops and fried chicken. The sides are Southern sweet and savory. The extra sides that they bring around are good too and it gives you a chance to try things you wouldn't ordinarily order. And you can take your leftover entrees home, just not the 'extras'. The decor is "country rustic, pull up a chair picnic, sure there's room for one more" sort of atmosphere. You're there to eat and they're there to feed you! Super large drinks, pounds of butter on the tables, servers throwing rolls and dishing up extra sides right at your table, is an efficient way to feed the masses that come here. If you want to be immersed in the causal country dining experience and you're really hungry, this is a good spot for you!

I have been here only one time prior but I LOVED it so I had to come in again! You order your meal with your sides and they walk around with 'pass-a-rounds' which is people walking around with fried okra, fried potatoes, Mac ad cheese, and the best black eyed peas!!! They throw your fresh hot rolls to catch and its just a fun place to visit. The prices are fair and the portions are huge! I left with more food then I started out haha!

  • Georgio B.

What a fun place to eat! Catchin rolls is big fun! The food was huge & delicious portions! The pass-a-rounds rocked! Home style food at it's finest. Come hungry... come REAL hungry! We'll be going back soon! Highly recommend!

I would have given it three stars but this place is highly highly overrated. Okay start with the positives: This place is a lot of fun and I'm glad I visited the restaurant. Yes they throw rolls at you from across the restaurant. They also provide you with unlimited fried okra, rolls, black eye peas, elbow macaroni in tomato sauce. The staff is great and fun. The food portions are adequate. (I did not think they were huge) The negatives: The food is horrible! All the vegetables are canned; fried okra is frozen it's basically school cafeteria quality food. I thought the prices of the food was high but when you factor in unlimited sides maybe it's not that bad of a deal. Again I am glad I went there once but I will not come back unless I have some tourist to take there. This place reminded me of one of Disney's themed restaurants. (May be the barbecue restaurant in the wilderness Lodge; But Disney food is a lot better) If this place would just spend a little time on their food quality this place would be three times as busy! Now throw me a roll!

Catch a flying roll and eat until you pop! Good hearty food - the pot roast and mashed potatoes with gravy was heavenly - you'll be guaranteed to waddle out satisfied. Always a fun place to eat and great for families.

My husband had never been here before so it was a treat for me to see him enjoy it. We arrived on a Friday right at noon. Walked right in the building and was only the 3rd party in line. We were seated within 3-4 minutes. As soon as we sat down they got our drink order and we grabbed napkins for the okra pass around. Not long after that we heard "HOT ROLLS!" and looked up to see them flying across the room. I had forgotten just how good these rolls were. The menu included Southern Country cooking. And they come around with unlimited sides for you. You won't leave here hungry that's for sure!

I have been to Lambert's twice now and will probably not return. The novelty somehow has worn off. The pass around stuff is annoying after awhile. I had the meat loaf dinner. The meat loaf was OK. The mashed potatoes were almost runny. All in all, a very average meal. The place looks shop-worn.....I know it is supposed to appear quaint and charming, but even with that thought in mind, it just appears kind of worn out. My wife wanted to go back after we had not been there for 4 years and on the way out she wondered out loud as to why people would wait in line for so long for a very average meal and atmosphere.

  • Steve S.

Good comfort food but I give it an extra star for the hospitality and the fun factor. The staff works hard keeping you entertained with practical jokes. They also bring around extra sides for free (no need to order extra) including the rolls which they like to throw at you (only if you are ready and want one.) Great fun for families!

love....love....love this place! friendly atmosphere & people & food is excellent! I had the fried catfish & my husband had the pot roast sandwich & both were awesome! and of course i cant say enough how much i love the rolls! we go to lamberts whenever we go to gulf shores....cants wait to try their breakfast!

I live near San Francisco so am not a Southern girl. This food was not real great, just so so. I ordered chicken fried steak since a friend recommended it. The steak and mashed potatoes were just okay. I ordered a side of carrots which tasted like sugar was added so I didn't eat them. The turnip greens were real bland and needed something to flavor them. My husband ordered a side of green beans which tasted like canned green beans and he ordered one of corn which was very sweet and had sugar added to it. My husband and I ate a pass around of fried okra which was good and the pass around of potatoes and onions were fine too but there was a pass around of tomatoes and pasta that was horrible and we both went 'yuck!. It tasted like a cup of sugar had gone into it and was horrible! I wouldn't recommend this place unless you enjoy large portions of mediocre food.

  • Nolan R.

I drove a ways to come here and I was underwhelmed. Everything here is one color....beige. The best part here are the rolls. Easily. They're hot and outstanding and if you're in the mood to catch one from 25 feet away - they'll accommodate you. The chicken I had was bland and over cooked. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't awesome either. I've had better chicken across the street at Chick-Fil-a. I guess the part that was overwhelming was the quantity of food. Seriously people...you don't need to eat this much.

After waiting outside for over an hour our number got called and we had to line up inside and wait some more. Once seated we waited almost an hour for our food which by this time anything would have tasted good to me. The food was plentiful, but really who eats that much? One plate would have fed all five of my crew. The food though was not hot and tasted bad. The only bright spot was some of the entertaining employees that did some funny things if you made sure to watch them. It's a gimmick place with the whole roll throwing thing. If you want good food go elsewhere.

Awesome experience. Good food. Friendly & fun service. Great for families and groups. Family style pass arounds weren't as good as expected. But fried okra and rolls were OUTTA THIS WORLD. chicken pot pie was amazing. Hamburger steak seasoned well but a lil over done. Very tasty. Huge drinks. KIDS grilled chz was a lil over cooked but our 2 yr old didn't mind. Friendly and fun server. Get there early! We got there at 4 pm on a Tuesday and by 4:30 the place was packed and on a wait!

This is definitely one of the restaurants I find hard to classify. The food is good and tasty and often you go home with leftovers. The place is always family oriented and somewhat noisy, but that is the nature of this restaurant. During tourist season it is a bear to get in unless you are very patient. I've had the catfish which is excellent as was the country fried steaks.

This place is great for the price! Make sure you bring an Appetite because the portions are HUGE! Oh and bring cash, not credit cards here. Over all great place to eat!

The wait is always crazy at this restaurant, and my first experience was when my family from over seas wanted a southern restaurant experience and we heard this was a unique one to dine at! After walking around and sitting the wait out, we were seated by happy, eager servers. After the 3 times that i've been, I've concluded that The food was okay, nothing to rave about, but their rolls are to die for! So soft, luscious and buttery! I also enjoy the sides which many people seem to forget about or pass up. The service is fast, and everyone is so eager to make you laugh and smile. For me this receives a 3 stars for food hence the rating, but its a 5 stars for experience and service!

  • J W.

Mediocre Church Basement food in a cartoon atmosphere. Pork chops and pork steak dry as particle board. Roast beef was okay. Pass arounds generally okay. Go for the silliness not for the food. You shouldn't expect great food from a restaurant serving the masses and decorated in license plates.

Came here on vacation with my husband and his family and we loved it! The food is great and I loved the throwed rolls. The only negative is that they do not take debit or credit cards, so make sure you have cash or a check with you when you come in. The wait to get inside is long, but it is totally worth it, and they have mist fans outside to help you stay cool. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone!

Very good place to eat! The wait however is not so good, so come early! My family and I came at 6:30 and were not seated until almost 8. There are always a ton of people here so be prepared for that. The food is sooo worth it. Love Lambert's!! Cannot wait to come back the next time I am staying at the beach! (Just planning on going a little earlier next time) =)

Really great food but no healthy options. The wait can be extremely long so get there early. We went at 10:30am and had a short wait but they were not able to accommodate our party of nine so we had to sit separately. Overall it was a fun experience and good food!

I ate here five hours ago, and I'm still full. I don't know what to do other than roll in my bed because I ate too much. I ordered a water, and it came in a cup the size of my head. They keep throwing rolls at you and covering them in the world's best applebutter and molasses. After getting my third helping of fried okra, which was also free, I finally received my meal. I was already full, and there was this serving large enough to feed my future children and grandchildren. Definitely order the chicken and dumplings. You'll want something with a lot of broth or liquid as they'll keep bringing you okra and throwing rolls at you. This place is too good. Obviously, I can never trust myself to eat here again.

Fun atmosphere. Nice ppl. Love the throwed rolls! Had a really fun guy throwing us rolls. The sides were good. The portion is huge! We had a lot of leftovers!!! Love the coconut scrub they had in the bathroom. I had to buy a jar of the scrub to take home. Good experience!

I really want to like this place. Like, I really want to like it. But it just falls short. Yes, it's really cool that they throw rolls at you and your appetizers are given to you on paper towels, but the actual entree food is just ok. No flavor at all. And for the price, it should be mind blowing. The bread is awesome. Get the honey butter and molasses on it (On paper towels...it kinda gets everywhere!) Also, arrive early for meal times. When we went, the line was out the door!

You sit down... people are starting to get you a head start on your calorie intake... Beans? Fried Potatoes? Fried Okra? Boiled Cabbage?.... Heads up!!!!! a Throwed Roll.... The staff is more than willing to help you get your grind on... Need something, just ask... Enjoy all the old signs, license plates and stuff they have decorated the place with... Go for a pee and you can read all about the Restaurants' accomplishments... Bring your appetite and cash or check..... Someone needs to roll me the f*ck on outta here...

i hate when people throw things at me, but I am OK with lambert's throwing hot rolls ;) yes, this is the place of the "throwed rolls", and the rolls are thrown to you! The place is near the beach, so you are watching your "bikini body", keep it moving. This place is NOT for you. But if you are like me, and have a swimsuit that is very forgiving, then go for it! While waiting for our food, my dinner companion and I were promptly greeted. Within minutes of getting our drinks, a guy comes around with "pass- arounds". Basically, these are items that you get free before your eat. i was stuff from fried okra and hot rolls. for dinner, I ordered the veggie plate- green beans, candid yams, corn, and homemade mashed potatoes. *carb coma* The first time eating at Lamberts was in 1999, and it was the one in Illnois. This one is near a beach and closer to home :-)

At least three people told me the food was not good. I believe in knowing things for myself. I can honestly say the food was really good. I had the shrimp dinner with green beans and a baked sweet potato. Also, workers come through the aisle offering other sides, such as fried okra, cabbages, etc. I also enjoyed the atmosphere with the throwed rolls. Service: We waited about 10 or 15 minutes. Our food came in a timely manner, maybe 10 or 15 minutes. Our waitress and hostess were really sweet. I definitely recommend eating here.

Good chicken wings and crispy crinkle cut french fries. Pretty good fried okra. However they leave the salt up to you on everything. The mac and tomatoes and cole slaw were way too sweet. But you get plenty of food. Too much actually. Service is outstanding. The only real negative is they don't take credit cards, yet they have an ATM out front. Pretty chincy for a chain that does such good business.

My review matches all the others. Long wait, great food. Only thing is that once we got in there I felt rushed to eat quickly. We also wanted to get some banana pudding but they ran out of bananas. 0.o We got a cinnamon roll instead. It was on a styrofoam plate and covered the whole thing. Thick, powdered sugar based icing (not cream cheese) topped it. They had already wrapped it in plastic wrap to go. :) I don't get where people expected this place to be "healthy." It's not. But the food is goooood and it's a lot for your money. I still am curious how the banana pudding is....

Tried Lambert's tonight for the first time. It is a really fun place with average food. The idea of waiters throwing the food! Hold up your hands and here comes a hot roll! (Don't miss it. He only throws you one!). Other waiters wandering around passing out black eye peas, fried okra, boiled cabbage and other "pass arounds" ( The Apple butter was excellent). The drinks are served in huge plastic mugs and you won't need a refill unless you are REALLY thirsty and the tea was very good. Now on to the food. I had the roast beef and DW had the meatloaf. Both entrees came with mashed potatoes and we both ordered turnip greens and green beans as our 2 sides. All of the food was a little bland for our taste. Everything needed salt and still seemed to be missing something. The mashed potatoes were kind of runny and seemed to be some thin instant type yet they had small lumps of potato. Strangest mashed taters I've ever had and again, the taste was bland. The best things to me were the rolls and the fried potatoes and onions served as one of the pass arounds. Service was very fast and very friendly. We enjoyed the experience and definitely left full, but I think this will a be a "one and done" place for us.

This place was amazing. Every plate was just around 12.99 but the plates were stacked not to mention how great the food was. They also have sides that are always being offered and rolls that are thrown across the room to you when you raise your hand to get one. Overall, great experience and would definitely recommend going there.

After all the hype from family that has eaten at Lambert's it was a disappointment. During our visit the "pass arounds" just never made it around. The server passing around the fried okra never once in her trips around acknowledge we were there she seemed to not like her job. The food that we did receive was good, the service was less than mediocre. After taking the ferry and driving for 32 miles it was not worth the trip. Would of been better off grilling a hot dog at camp.

So much food!! Very good quality for the price and the neat decor is sure to keep you entertained, even if you don't have a roll thrown at you. I found myself wishing there was a lunch menu since the portions were gigantic for a lunch time meal. Great shareables theme and well welcoming atmosphere.

I read the earlier postings about the wait being long however we got right in. I enjoyed reading the materials posted in the waiting area and learning about the family. It's true they do throw the rolls and they are yummy. For me being from the Northwest where food is served in it's natural state, it was hard to eat the fried foods. I'm just not into lots of greasy foods. I ordered the chef's salad and ate some sides that were passed around. Just little bites of this and that satiated my taste for southern comfort food. I left feeling very full for the next 2 days. By the way the salad was so big that it fed 4 adults the next day!

Went about 5pm on a Monday night and still waited for an hour. Place was packed with big groups of tourists. Unlike other reviewers we had a rather rude waitress who seemed annoyed at anything we said to her. When she brought our food she set it down and walked off without checking to see if we had everything or needed anything. I had to flag her down to get silverware and when I asked politely for it she glared at me, made a huff noise and walked off. She came back a few minutes later with 4 plastic wrapped utensil sets and threw them on the table. Unfortunately there were 5 people in our group and as much as we love each other we still need our own forks. I had to flag her down again and ask for another set. I thought she was going to kill me! We just kept our heads down and ate quickly. Was offered the fried okra which wasn't bad. Kids each ate a roll which was gently thrown underhand at them. The fried potatoes and onions were probably my favorite and crisp and had a nice amount of pepper on them. Never saw the other sides they say they have. Not sure why they didn't come around. We generally liked the food but it wasn't anything too awesome. There are other local spots that serve the same sort of thing without the wait and chaos. So between the horrible waitress and the wait and having to remember to bring enough cash to pay for the meal we won't be back.

Definitely a place to go if you are going down through Foley to the gorgeous Alabama shores. I only gave it four stars because I think the entrees are just ok but the throwed rolls and pass arounds are delicious and make up for it. If I could pay just to eat the pass arounds I would but you are required to buy an entree. The menu is a bit pricey but that is because you get a generous amount of food both on your entree and with the all you can eat pass arounds and rolls. You will usually come home with a to-go plate. The experience is wonderful and worth the time that you have to wait for a table. Kids love catching the rolls. The staff is wonderful and friendly. Get there early because it gets crowded, especially in the summer with the beach travelers. The reason it's on my Top 100 Dishes to Try: Pass Arounds The reason it's on my Little Things list: Throwed Rolls List: The BEST fried okra I've ever had.

We went to Lambert's in Foley, AL last night. After reading the reviews I had mixed feelings if it would be super awesome or not, but having five kids with us everyone local said it would be a wonderful experience. Of course there was a wait, but it seemed to go fast. We chatted on the porch with fans and had sunscreens to keep the sun off. There's lots of benches, outdoor restrooms, and a gift shop you can mill around in. You wait on the porch until they call in about 15 parties to wait inside. The smells are intoxicating! I kept smelling what appeared to be roast beef so that's what I ordered. The rolls and fried okra came out first, and we weren't disappointed. The rolls were super soft inside, brown and crunchy outside, and there was butter, honey and pass around apple butter and molasses to go on them. One roll was a big as a grapefruit and, of course, thrown:) The fried okra was thickly coated and smelled amazing as it came closer to the table. Our food arrived within 30 minutes. Because we were a big party we got two booths next to each other. One for the adults, one for the kids. The waitress was super friendly to our kids as well as us and made our meal really special. I unfortunately expected the food to be canned and warmed up because of what other reviewers said, but I must tell you it is NOT!!! I was born and raised in the south and know what good country cooking is. That being said, I'm a chef and know what all kinds of good food is. Country cooking is suppose to be deep fried and slathered. It's comfort food for goodness sake! So that being said, everything we got was well seasoned and tasty in our opinion. LOVED the fired potatoes and onions, sliced thin and crispy. Also delicious were the turnip greens, cooked cabbage, and black eyed peas. The bucket girl had to talk me into them because I'm not usually a fan, but wow! My husband's fired chicken was tasty but not quiet 5 star, but my roast beef was out of this world. Country fried steak was the bomb and big as a bomb, and the people next to us were chowing down on a delicious looking 16 oz steak cooked to perfection and served in a huge skillet. Now for the trough reviews. Yes, it is an obscene amount of food, but people you don't have to eat it all! I got lots of pass arounds, ate only half of my roast beef, and then got more pass arounds which is encouraged and then filled a whole box for take home. The deal of the day? I don't have to cook for the masses for a couple of days! We all walked away full, with another couple of meals to take home each, and paid about $13 a head. You won't go to Cracker Barrel for that, but you will be much happier you went to Lambert's!

What a great find! We loved it so much we went two days in a row. Once for dinner and once for lunch! COME HUNGRY! So unique, LARGE portions, fun and tasty! Wait was not that long in November on a Friday and Saturday. Imagine it could be a bit of a wait in the summer months!. Southern Comfort Food. Hot rolls with apple butter . . .mmmmm . . . Heaven. Fried Okra was really good too! P.S. The rolls are hot when you catch them. Be prepared!

Disgusting....this is totally not my kind of place. Went here on vaca because its the place to go. Here is the deal.....the buns are fantastic and definitely worth a star (hence the two stars instead of one). I think I ate 4 huge rolls....carb overload. That is basically where the "goodness" of this place ends. There are no reservations...so we waited for 2.5 hrs.... The service is horrendous, however we were with kids and the servers play jokes on the tables so the kids loved it. For me, its not my kind of restaurant. Yes, yes they throw rolls....really is this the draw of this place???? The food was gross....the thing is, you get all you can eat sides in the beginning, fried okra, fried potatoes, buns, etc.....I cant even remember what else....none of it was good. This place is a heart attack waiting to happen that isnt worth the price. If I am going to eat bad for me food....I want it to be good....Lamberts is not. I say skip it.

It is a touristy thing to go here. We came around three pm and there was no wait. The place is large and there were plenty of patrons. They are famous for their "throwed rolls" so the kids were looking forward to that. Unfortunately, the rolls we got were merely tossed by an unenthusiastic waiter with no personality. The rolls were big and looked nice and fluffy but turned out to be dry and heavy. They did not seem homemade at all. Everyone raves about the "pass-a rounds" and while the potatoes and onions were very good, hubby makes 'me at home much more deliciously! The macaroni and tomatoes were droopy pasta mixed with a can of tomatoes. Not great. The kids liked the fried okra but my guess is the "fried" is what they enjoyed the most. We ordered fried chicken wings, chicken-fried steak, chicken-and-dumplings, and a cheeseburger. Our sides were corn, cole slaw, mashed potatoes, and fries. Nothing was bad, but nothing was worth another visit, either. We're glad to have gone, but we won't be back. Prices match the quantity of food... not over-priced. Eh.

I was stuff for the rest of the night after eating lunch. Wait was about 15 minutes at 1pm during the off season. You gey awesome freshly baked hot rolls thrown at you. The portions of food was huge...in addition to the all you can eat walk arounds. Drink cups are 24-32 oz football game mugs and youll most likely not need a refill. Staff were friendly and the place was definately packed. Highly recommend eating here if youre ever in the area. It is definately worth waiting in line for.

Lambert's always provides a solid value with a unique atmosphere. It's kitchy and a little over the top, but still fun and the kids are happy, despite the always at least 45 minute wait in the heat. All of the "passarounds" are very good, especially the fried potatoes. The entrees were good, although after eating all that okra and bread, I wasn't terribly hungry. At the end of the day, we got a lot of good food for about $40 for 4 people.

Great atmosphere for the entire family plus great home cooked southern food. You can't go wrong eating here. The wait can be long but oh well it's worth it. Caution the rolls fly hot and fresh.

Love their chicken fried steak!! The wait can be long in the summer and its very hot and loud with the music, but a wonderful spot not during tourist season.

  • Hope R.

A must if you've never been before! Very different from any other place around town and the amount of food served is worth the price you pay! Great southern food and atmosphere but be ready to catch a roll if you lock eyes with the person that's throwing them! It's fun and the whole family will enjoy plus have a good laugh or two while there!

  • Randy P.

Food was good. Service was good, after 5 different servers come by. Personally I would rather enjoy my meal with my family or friends, instead of ducking rolls or declining or accepting food from a bucket or the gags along the way. I can say, been there done that now. $30.00 for 2 meals. Get there early.

  • Chris L.

What a fun experience for the whole family. It was worth the 30-45 minute wait to get into the building. The service was great and food was really good. The "throwed rolls" were amazing!! This will be our first stop when we come back on our next vacation.

  • Stephanie L.
