I don't get this place. I respect it. Good hard working people trying to make a buck off of a decent enough cheeseburger. From other reviews I knew there would be a wait. Upon arrival they said maybe 20 or 30 minutes. One hr. later I get my burger cooked just fine ( although not the extremely well done requested.) It was not cold by any means, but neither was it piping hot; my goodness..... an hour.....? Just can't figure it out; there's no mystique here.... just a clean stripmall joint. The beef kind of "sweet"; don't care for that, and don't like the ff, although that's my fault---I knew what they had by the picture. But back to my point.... Just can't figure out what they're DOING with all the time, for a non gourmet burger, that may BE hot off the press, but doesn't taste like it. Nice, friendly people, but not worth my drive across town. It's a mystery!

Yes there is a wait and they tell you up front!! Absolutely love their burgers, all of them. Zydeco is probably my most favorite. Chicken tenders are off the chain as well. We order take out a good bit from here and it is just as good as eating in. My husband ordered a fish po'boy the last time when we dinned in and after a few mins they came out and apologized that they didn't realize they were out of fish and gave him whatever he wanted off the menu and also the owner came out and gave us a card for a free meal for 3 the next time we came. Which my husband was so happy!

Our first visit was a Friday night. We waited 32 minutes for our food. The staff must have noticed the frequency in which I was checking my watch and the irritated look on my face. Shortly after our food arrived, the owner, Chubb, came over and introduced himself. He apologized for the excessive wait but explained everything was made fresh so a 15-20 minute wait should be expected on a busy night. He also gave us a card for two free meals if we came back to try them again. That night, I had the chicken tacos and my husband had the Chubba burger. My tacos were quite good. They were topped with a corn and black bean relish. The salsa that came on the side with the chips was smoky and thick. My husband gave the burger an "I would eat this again" stamp of approval. He is a huge burger snob so this is almost the best rating he would ever give. The french fries he had were hand cut and delicious. I don't know why so many places struggle with good french fries, but Chubb's delivers. Next to Bellini's, Chubb's are the second best in town. With two free meals in hand, and rave reviews from friends, we hoped that the slow service on our first visit was a fluke and went back the following week. I had the chicken tenders and my husband had the Chubb deluxe. Both were excellent. Chubb's is inexpensive and has really great food. The water has a strange taste so I would advise getting something else to drink. The wings that went by looked delicious. They don't offer dessert of any kind, which is unfortunate. They also don't offer beer, wine or a full bar. It's rather difficult to obtain a liquor license in Alabaster but I do wish they would try. Finally, I appreciate a business owner that is willing to accept responsibility for slow service. However, there is clearly and issue when you have a 32 minute ticket time. Even a 15-20 minute ticket time on a busy night will sink a restaurant faster than the Hindenburg. Food should be dropped within 90 seconds of ordering and delivered in 8-12 minutes. They may benefit from bringing in a restaurant consultant to help iron out the issues they are having. I hope that they do because the food is great.

Just had my first dining experience at Chubb's! This is the best new restaurant to come to Alabaster in years. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. I had the grilled fish tacos and a few bites of my lunch date's zydeco burger. Everything exceeded expectations! The French fries are probably the best I have ever tasted. Service was splendid and very prompt. I may go back for dinner.

Since we've heard good things about this place we had high expectations. After spending $22 on 2 burgers and fries I definitely thought they were going to be awesome! Sadly we left with the intention of never going back. I ordered the zydeco burger which has 2 patties and onion ring. Both pattties were way overcooked with burn marks and too dry to eat without adding extra sauce. The bun was dry and fell apart on the first bite. Bacon overcooked as well. Needless to say...everything was overcooked. The fries were all stuck together and loaded with salt. Yuck! My husbands burger fell apart immediately and made such a mess he ate the rest with a fork. Very disappointed all the way around. We are local and always looking for a good burger. I do NOT recommend Chubbs.

Don't let the sparse decor fool you. This place means business and the proprietor puts his heart and soul into the food. I had the Dubba Chubba Burger which is two quarter pound perfectly cooked and seasoned patties, cheddar cheese, two thick slices of bacon, house made bbq sauce, mayo, grilled/carmelized onions, shredded lettuce and pickles (I skipped the tomatoes). The burger is large, well put-together with a very soft bun. The flavors meld very well in your mouth and the fresh meat doesn't leave any excessive fat or frozen patty after taste. It all seemed very fresh. It was an excellent burger. Instead of the standard fries (because I ordered cheese fries), I opted for the fried pickles. These pickles were expertly breaded and perfectly fried (Neither greasy or burned). The taste was great, crispy breaded exterior with the snap of a quality dill pickle chip inside. The pickle chips are well paired with the homemade ranch sauce. Lastly, we shared an order the cheese fries. As the owner explained, the fries go through a multi-temperature oil frying process that make the fries come out perfect. The fries where covered with cheddar, jack cheese and bacon. Very good. Overall it was a very good experience and I definitely want to return to try out a Po-Boy sandwich. I was told the bread is imported from New Orleans' own Gambino's Bakery ( gambinosfoods.com ). This fact alone should make Chubb's Grub Station's Po-Boys the most legit in town.

Awesome food. Good price. Nice people. Their outreach work to the community makes the place all the better.

My husband and I stopped at this place after reading other reviews on yelp and we are very happy we did. The wait staff was extremely friendly. You place your order at the counter when you walk in and we asked what they recommended since we had never been there. During that conversation we found out they had their bread for the poboys shipped in daily from Gambinos in New Orleans. So of course one of us had to order something on the poboy bread. I got the Cajun cheesesteak with their Cajun horseradish sauce and my husband got the Chubba burger. These are not sandwiches you try and eat in the car. The bread is so fresh and the burger so juicy my husband went through about 5 napkins. The Cajun cheesesteak was very flavorful. It did have some kick but nothing over the top. The fries were really good too, you could tell they were handmade fries. If you get a chance to stop here we recommend you should give it a try. It's about a half a mile off the interstate but well worth the slight detour.

Had heard great things but have to say I won't go back unless I know for sure service is better. Went in on a friday was told there was a 45 minute wait on food - thought it would be worth the wait. Food arrived one hour and fifteen minutes after order placed. Fries and fried pickles were good, hamburger patty was good but swallowed up by a way too big fun. Couldn't get beyond the wait. Staff seemed to have good intentions but how long does it take to fry a hamburger patty? The staff never seemed to acknowledge the fact that the food was late. Would rather have gone to Steak & Shake.

I agree with the first poster, don't let the sparce decor fool you. We ate lunch and it was fantastic! We had the shrimp po-boy and a burger and we would rank them both as some of the best we have ever had, and love, love the hand cut fries! If you visit this place, come hungry!

The atmosphere is simple, the food is wonderful. My husband is attached to the Zydeco Burger. We've been there three times and had the Z burger each time. I've tried 3 different menu items and they've all been great. They do need to work on the wait time. Everything is made fresh but that shouldn't hinder getting the food out quickly.

Really don't see what all the fuss is w/ the fries, at least the basic fries. 5 Guys has better fries in my opinion. Had the basic cheeseburger and it was ok, have had much better. Agree with another post about the bun being too large for the meat patty, or is it the other way around ? Not sure if I'll go back or not as there are better burgers & fries out there. Service was quick as it was Monday afternoon after lunch time. Owner/employees caring and pleasant. Facility very clean. Loved all the posters/ signs & sayings on the walls.

If you like good fries and below average burgers this is the place for you. 2 burgers, fries and drinks for $20. Not worth it.

The best way to describe Chubb's is to state what it isn't. Chubb's is not Subway, it is not McAlister's, it is not Firehouse, and it definitely isn't McDonalds. Chubb's is a no frills, cooked-to-order counter service restaurant that doesn't skimp on portion sizes or on the quality of the food. If you are thinking fast food, then this isn't the place for you. They have even posted a sign that states that your order will take at least 15 minutes. There is nothing frozen, canned, microwaved, or pre-made at Chubb's. The wait is more than made up with the quality of the food. Great homemade sauces, delicious breads, house made fries and onion rings, gargantuan burgers, and some of the best shrimp tacos I've tasted. The owners of the restaurant are also involved in giving back to the community. They donate to local food banks and you can bring a canned good and receive a free drink with your meal. This is an example of the little things that separate Chubb's from other counter service places. As a tip, if you order any sandwich in the foot-long size, go ahead and get a carry-out box. They do not skimp on portions. Also, try your best not to steal a jar of the homemade Cajun horseradish sauce. You might get in trouble.

Good food... Just good comfort food. Not a lot to say. I picked up my go order, they treated me to a free coke while I waited. Super nice. Food was good.

You are gonna wait for your food and its gonna be worth it. So sit down and spend 30 mins talking to your family or friends. It won't kill you. They even have tvs now for sports. Bring in a canned good and get a free drink. The burgers are so big and juicy and delicious. My family loves the fries, so perfectly crispy yet not, if you know what I mean. I can't even begin to tell you how much I LOVE their fried green tomatoes. I seriously dream about them at night. They have this spicy house sauce I've tried to emulate and can't. And my kids love the fried pickles. My husband races about the fish taco every time we go. I love CHUBBS. I love Will and his family and I love everything they stand for. A great asset to our community!

DELICIOUS! We got 2 hamburgers & an order of cheese fries to go and it was all SO GOOD! Maybe it was because it was to go, but the bread kinda fell apart while eating the burger when we got it home 10 minutes later. We will definitely be back! If you ever are in a mood for a good burger (and fries), this is the place!

I usually order to go because if you decide to eat in, expect somewhat of a wait if you're in around lunch/dinner. The service is awesome from the few times I ate in. The Zydeco burger is the absolute best burger on the menu. The fries are awesome dipped in their Cajun horseradish sauce. You definitely get what you pay for here. Don't miss out.

Great burgers with no frills. This is a family run business that gives back to the community every chance they get. There are no TV's on purpose, they want families to talk to each other when they eat here. It does take at least 15 minutes to get your order, but is well worth your wait. The Zydeco burger has been my favorite, but I really like them all. Everything is a HUGE portion. You will not leave here hungry. My only complaint with this place is that the owner is a Steelers fan.

I can't tell you how many times I've passed this place over the past year, I can't believe I deprived myself of all the goodness this place offers. My wife and I were sitting at home last night trying to find somewhere out of the norm to grab some food and she said "let's go see what Chubb Grub is all about". OMG IM SO GLAD SHE DID!!!! THE FOOD IS FANTASTIC. We got the Marley and Greek wings and I got the whole chicken and sausage po boy, I wish I had know how HUGH the whole po boy was I would have only ordered a half. The fries are cooked PERFECTLY and the Cajun horseradish sauce, I wanted to turn the squeeze bottle up and drink it. I can't believe I waited so long to try them but I will definitely be going back............DEFINITELY!!!

Excellent local place for burgers! I have eaten here only a handful of times because I am trying to eat healthier these days, but I do dream about the Chubb's burger sometimes. :) I like the original better than Zydeco, but that it probably because I am a purist. Try it. You won't be sorry!

Yes the food is ok, usually coated in sodium based seasoning but the customer service is atrocious! I asked about delivery to Helena, exactly 4 miles from door to door. They delivered to me twice and the last six times they tell me "no, we are short staffed". I called tonight and spoke with Kayla, the manager on duty. She told me that now they only deliver in aAlabaster! Then they tell me that they can fix the food and Ivan come pick it up. They forgot the reason for my delivery was because I am legally blind and CANNOT DRIVE! Thanks for nothing Chubbs if you are not going to deliver the stop the false advertising. You don't have to worry about me and my family coming in or calling to order food again! I get better service at McDonald's!

This is a simple, no nonsense place to grab a burger or sandwich. You place your order at the counter, and are given a number to display at your table for food delivery. Several yelp reviews included comments about orders taking a long time to come out. We had a party of seven on a Friday night (5:30) and didn't have any problems with this. I had a 6 inch shrimp po-boy and a side of fried pickles. The po-boy was on crunchy French bread that was good, but was falling apart. I think the bread was old, and so it was a handful trying to keep it together. Otherwise, the po-boy was pretty good. It contained a generous number of large shrimp, and they were fried in a light batter. The po-boy was "dressed" with lettuce, tomatos, and a cajun horseradish sauce. The side order of fried pickles was a large portion. The pickles were not greasy at all, and were right out of the fryer hot. The thin, ranch dipping sauce was an excelent complement to the fried dill pickle flavors. I like locally owned places, and it's great to see that Chubb's supports their community. They support the local food bank by offering a free drink if you donate two can goods for the cause. Also, they are an athetic supportor of the local high school (the Thompson Warriors).

Hmmm...came in at 7 on a Saturday. Flies all over the drink station and a waitress was eating wings in the kitchen. Food was ok, but our first impression will stick with us for a while.
