"Best Cupcakes in Town" our guide boasted...well, they were pretty damn good. We had the rhubarb, pumpkin, cherry cheesecake and chocolate peanut butter...MMMmmm! All were good. Its a super cute shop right across the street from Sockeye's...which was convenient for our walk back to our ship. Check it out!

Stopped in recently while I was off the cruise ship because I read that they had gluten free options. The day I stopped in I picked up two gluten free carrot cake cupcakes for $7 and was greatly pleased with how good they were after having so many blah gluten free dessert options on the cruise. Definitely worth the stop!

My hubs brought me home a surprise 6 pack...they were (are) amazing. Their vanilla is sooo sooo good. Red velvet had a perfect amount of cream cheese and icing ratio. I am sooo sooo happy they have stuck around over the years. It's my favorite treat from Skagway now. A must!!!!

I bought my gluten free friend some of their gfree cupcakes, and she offered me a piece. When I ate it, I expected something that would taste like cardboard (it was gluten free, after all) but I could barely even tell the difference between the gfree and regular cupcakes. Delicious and moist and full of flavor, Sugar Mamas has cupcaking making down to an art!

I live in NYC, with a myriad of cupcake and bakery places at my disposal. I'd trade every single one of them for Sugar Mama's, without even batting an eye! Can't give better kudos than that!

Cupcakes at Sugar Mama's are a nice treat to have near the end of your day. Got the chocolate one after our time at Skagway was about to end on a cruise. The cupcake was moist and the cream on top was excellent. I don't like cupcakes that are extremely sweet and this wasn't the case with Sugar Mama's. Skagway is a small town so you can't miss the building. It's off of the main street but it is visible. Lady behind the counter was friendly, nice and helpful. I just wished they had more flavors to select from because we only had 4 to pick from but maybe that's because it was end of the day. Pros: Moist, right amount of sweetness (at least for me), soft cream on top Cons: More selection of flavors (I don't think they sell out that quick in a small town)

Wonderful local eatery! Delicious home made cream puffs! Our waitress was such a sweetie as she took time to visit and tell us about the local way of life in Skagway.... As she did several other waiters did the same all the while serving us in a timely manner with very good food... Highly recommend this local delight.

A cute little sweet treat to finish the day. We got there late so the cupcake options were a little limited. We settled on a red velvet cupcake on a paper napkin. That cupcake didn't stand a chance of making it down the street. The cake was moist and had a really nice red velvet flavor. We are more cream cheese/cream cheese-like frosting fans with a red velvet and this frosting was a little too sweet for our tastes.

Get your sugar fix here. We found that a lot of cruise ship employees come in here on shore leave to get their guilty pleasures. The brownies are particularly good here. Recommendation is that you grab calories of your choice and a beverage to go and really sweeten up your walking afternoon.

Their cupcakes are the best. The cake is so moist unlike any other cupcakes I have ever had. I still think it has something to do with the Alaska weather (who knows). Keep up the good work. Red velvet - must try Raspberry coconut with chocolate cake - must try Margarita - only for drinks not cupcakes Shame on NCL for not letting passengers bring the cupcakes on board.

This was on my list of places to visit while docked during my Alaskan cruise stop. I came across this place on Yelp. I wanted a strawberry cupcake but they had run out. I decided on the vanilla on vanilla and my husband had red velvet. The vanilla was very good, the red velvet was nothing to write home about. This is a good stop for something sweet while in Skagway.

The girl behind the counter suggested red velvet. The texture, color, and taste of the cake was very reminiscent of the boxed cake mix i had a few weeks back. Sorry!

Another place I recommend to passengers while I worked on cruise ships during Alaska Runs. Sugar Mama's was always my highlight in Skagway when my ship would meet up with another ship in our fleet and we'd have a couple hours off to meet up and grab a couple of nice cupcakes! I'd recommend it to passengers all the time there (and then they'd see me there) and as I worked in the Kid's Clubs all the kids would come in and say how much they loved the cupcakes! They have traditional and some very creative ones (I never wanted to try the bacon ones but my friends that tried it said it was delicious). The prices were excellent too ($1 for a cupcake) and they were nice sized ones too. Sometimes there will be 4 ships in at a time and they will flock the stores as there are only so many places to eat in Skagway, so sometimes you'll find that their choices are limiting or that they are in the back making more, and if that's the case ask how long it will take for that batch to get ready 'cause they are the best when they are freshest! I always thought that the gifts in there were silly but I never got around to getting one. Yummy :)

Very cute little cupcake shop with really good cupcakes and funky gift ideas. I loved that it was different from other cupcakes shops that have those cute little pretty in pink type gifts, their gifts were like a bacon wallet, a switchblade comb, it was so much fun looking around at everything! I ended up buying a few cupcakes and some candy cigarettes and left happy!

Cheeky cupcakes place in Skagway Alaska (Population of 800)!!! I was on the Alaska cruise and Skagway was one of the port we stopped by. I found Sugar Mama's off the main street (Broadway) when I was wondering around and checking out the town. The store is nicely decorated with pink and brown colors. I saw the cutest cupcakes on the shelves. For no reason, I went ahead and bought 7 cupcakes (Remember...I am on a cruise...there's UNLIMITED food and dessert on board. There's no reason why I should buy more dessert to eat!) Each cupcake runs for $2.25 ...I got chocolate w/ peanut butter buttercream frosting, the Hillary - white care with toasted coconut buttercream, coffee cake w/ mocha buttercream frosting, and the strawberry fields forever... I think the chocolate w/ peanut butter was the BEST!!! The cake was moist, the buttercream was perfect!!! The owner, Deb, was very nice. She also showed me her latest creation, a GIANT cupcake (see photos), that someone just ordered...it's $25. The store has other cool gifts and toys...I also bought a T-shirt from there too. I am glad that Deb (owner) established this cute little store and made these also cupcakes in Skagway, Alaska.

I was hoping to be the first to review this wonderful gem! I love cupcakes...little too much probably. Originally we were going to have an entirely cupcake wedding, but then common sense kicked in. Well, if I lived in Alaska I would come here everyday. Went here after biking 15 miles and it was worth every calorie. "The Gordon" is the best! Chocolate with peanut butter buttercream frosting... yummm. The Rhubarb Cupcake was also devine, but I will forever have dreams about peanut butter frosting. yummmm

We stopped by for the gourmet cupcakes after riding back to Skagway on bikes. They were awesome!

Someone in line in front of us said this place has the best cupcakes in the world. Maybe she meant "the best cupcakes in Skagway, Alaska." Or perhaps all of Alaska. But "the world"? I don't think so. The cupcakes here are fine. The red velvet was pretty decent, and the vanilla with raspberry cream cheese frosting was, too. And if you've spent days trapped on a cruise ship eating mediocre food, you'll no doubt find Sugar Mama's a welcome change of pace from the never-ending/never-changing dessert buffet on your ship. But I have three complaints: (1) the wait is long -- they didn't have enough cupcakes ready when we went in, so we had to mill around for 15-20 minutes while a new batch was being made; (2) there was something wafting from the kitchen that made our eyes burn to the point that we had to exit the bakery; and (3) when the cupcakes were done and placed in a box for us, the server accidentally tipped two of them over, resulting in squashed frosting and a messy box bottom -- the server looked at the lopsided, smeared cupcake tops, and just propped 'em back upright with an "oh, well" shrug and handed the box to us. Also odd: There is an overabundance of bacon-related memorabilia for sale in this cupcake shop, but no actual bacon. Still, if you find yourself in Skagway and you lurv cupcakes, this is the place to go. Just bring protective goggles.

Cupcakes not that great and unfriendly cashier. Bring exact cash as they couldn't make change. There are much better cupcake places in Cali so it was a letdown for me. Fair warning: some of their merchandise may offend you so don't bring the kids here

Cutest place ever. Have you seen the over sized cupcake? I would totally order that if I had a birthday... One of the cooler shops of Skagway that are not geared towards tourists...but has its own flavor

After a few days of mediocre food on our cruise ship we booked it to Sugar Mama's when we heard about it from a local. We were absolutely not disappointed. We arrived just as they were closing up so they were kind enough to give us day old prices ($1 instead of $2.50). So, we had to buy one of each kind. The rhubarb strudel was amazing and the red velvet was a big hit. One of my friends even raved about the vanilla/vanilla which was a little too vanilla for me. It was a welcome break from the cruise food and they had other awesome things for sale too (buttons, aprons, t-shirts). I highly recommend making a point to stop there if you're in Skagway.

These cupcakes are way better than Kara's or Sprinkles any day. Yes, they don't look as purty but they are delicious. I'm really picky when it comes to red velvet cupcakes and these are the best hands down. Moist cake and the perfect ratio of cream cheese in the frosting. I usually do not eat all the frosting on cupcakes but I do if the cupcakes are from Sugar Mama. 2.75 per cupcake or 2.50 if you buy four or more. I wish I could get these shipped over to California.
