After 34 miles of 6 foot swells and puking my brains out on a halibut boat...... This place pretty much saved my life. Well played Rosco! Great food

In the Summer, I drive frequently between Anchorage and Homer. The small town of Ninilchik is in between "Speed Zone Ahead" and "Resume Speed" on the highway. I've noticed Rosco's for a while now, but just stopped in the other day on my way back to Anchorage. First of all, the smell of a true pizzeria was very welcome as we entered. The menu included more than just pizza, and I wanted one of everything. I ended up choosing a burger, and it was excellent! They make their own buns here, and it made a big difference. One of my party had the pulled pork sandwich, and it was good too. A cobb salad rounded out our group's choices, and it was full of variety. Next time, I'm trying the pizza. Hand-tossed, and the smells coming from the kitchen were just divine. We were on a time crunch, or we would have taken the time to have a pie.

Only pizza and calzones after 9p. We arrived about 30min before closing time, and so I thought it was nice that not only did our order arrive promptly, but also that we were not rushed to finish by the staff. As one of the few places to eat around here, I was impressed by the quality of the food. The crust was thicker, but perfect in texture (crispy exterior, fluffy interior). We got the Mediterranean pizza, and they had ran out of spinach, but we were happy to replace it with mushrooms, which were fresh and NOT of the canned variety (yuck). We must have been starving, b/c we finished the large. The breadsticks were not that good and def not worth $5. I don't normally order breadsticks (seems redundant with pizza), but the bread was foccacia, and it sounded interesting. The product though fell a little short. I would be more than happy to return here if we're lucky enough to return to the area.

This place is fantastic. My Dad ordered the baked lasagne, which came with a green side salad. The salad had nice and fresh leafy green lettuce - none of that cheap iceberg lettuce prepackaged salad nonsense some restaurants serve. His lasagne was beautiful and disappeared quickly. I am a vegetarian and the chef (owner?) came out to talk to me personally and was very accommodating. My dinner was full of veggies and super tasty! Tables were clean and our server was friendly.

I can't say enough about Rosco's. The people, the menu, the everything. You wouldn't think that the best Amer-Italian food in the entire northwest would be found in this dusty highway pit stop of a town, but it is. When Chef Ross and Carol purchased the old building and opened up in 2010 they breathed a huge gust of fresh air and life into the community with their well run, casual dining restaurant that serves immaculate food. When in Ninilchik, or even along the highway elsewhere, it's hard to not justify going there every single day of the week even if you have other plans. The menu and the atmosphere will constantly drag you back in. The icing on the cake is how Ross, Carol, and hostess/server Kathy are friendly and jovial with everybody, and know how to tame the rowdiest of locals (guilty here!) and the stubbornest of tourists. Carol especially, she is the best dancer in town! Everything is made from scratch with the west's best ingredients available, and I recommend any of the pizzas or calzones of course. One final tip, the specials of the day are actually *special*. Your usual just might be "the unusual" because they put love in everything, even the special offerings. If you see a shrimp sub GET IT AND TREASURE IT!

I haven't been back to Rosco's after that single disappointing trip, but Ross, the owner of Rosco's, has contacted me about my review. I'm impressed and appreciative that he takes feedback so seriously. I value this highly in a business owner. He assures me that our experience at his place was atypical and based on inexperienced staff and cooks at the time, and that this issue has been taken care of. He seems genuine and eager to prove his establishment is a five-star place. I've appreciated my correspondence with him and based on that would be willing to try his restaurant again. I'm not sure if I'll have the opportunity in the near future, but I do wish owners of other establishments took reviews as seriously, respectfully and professionally as Ross has.

There are very few food choices in Ninilchik. Rosco's on the outside is not the most inviting looking place. And we're snobby NY foodies. So we were a little nervous walking into the restaurant. We were glad that the food got rid of any concerns we might have had. The pizza was actually really good, the service was excellent. The ambience isn't so great but we were starving so that was not an issue. I would definitely come back here.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
