This place is so fantastic!! It's best to show up earlier in the "dinner time" spectrum, as this place gets busy. It can be a wait for a table, but it's absolutely worth it. We try to go here a couple times a month. Affordable, large portions...absolutely phenomenal food!!!

Not sure what all the hype is about. We waited forever to get seated and forever to get our food. Granted they do warn you that the wait will be long - but the excuse that Thai food takes a while to cook is nonsense - no other Thai place I have been to works like this - they are just understaffed and poorly organized. Poor - somewhat rude - service. Large portions. Mediocre food. Many vegetarian options - last page of the menu

So I haven't tried too many Thai restaurants in my time, but this one hands down beats anything I've ever been too. The food is very tasty, authentic, and the portions are ginormous. The Thai lady who owns the place is so friendly and you can tell it's just a small family owned gem. The food can take a while when the restaurant is full of people but it always comes out hot and fresh. I have definitely become a regular to this place and I highly recommend it to anyone who's looking for a good meal in a homey atmosphere.

The best restaurant in Juneau. The drive is well worth it. And, even though the signs advise you to be patient for your food, I've never had an inordinate wait.

Generous portions and solid service. However, it seems like the menu has less variety than it once did, in terms of specific offerings . Also,it tastes like they use the exact same seasoning for dishes that are supposed to be different.

The best Thai food I've ever had and by far the best service. It's well worth the wait in line and is a must visit when in Juneau.

Anything but thai. Ordered Panama curry and green curry. They both tasted same and tasted like water, no taste what so ever. Please save you money and spend it somewhere useful.

The wait was a bit long but the entire restaurant was packed so it was unreasonably long. Their portions are very big. I got the Coconut Chicken Soup and the Chicken Pad Thai. Both were very good and I had extra to take home. The service was great as well.

Probably my favorite place in Juneau! Always get the same thing. Egg Rolls, (which are to die for), Chicken Green Curry and Chicken Pad Thai.. Sometime there is a little wait, but we just leave our phone number, go upstairs to Squirez and have a drink while we wait.. Definitely worth the visit!

First, I disagree with reviews that complain about waiting. We had no unusual wait. Our group of three had spring rolls, squid curry, phad tai with chicken, and beef in oyster sauce. The spring rolls were about the best I've ever eaten. Large, crisp on the outside and filled with delicious veggies. My wife reported that the squid curry was fantastic and my grandson loved the noodles with chicken. I was a bit disappointed in the beef dish. I tasted the other two dishes. I have visited Bangkok dozens of times over the last couple decades and have eaten at everything from the best Thai restaurants to street vendors. The food at Chan's lacked a certain taste of Bangkok food that I find hard to describe. The food in Bangkok is more fragrant with fresh spices and has a lighter taste on the tongue. Oh, I also ordered some prik nam pla which is green chili in fish sauce. I wanted to adjust the heat myself. Chan's sauce was perhaps the hottest I have ever had, but after a few doses, I could tolerate it. It really added to the experience. Request it, if you go and can take 5 star hotness. The restaurant itself has little atmosphere. The service is very good. Chan's is located about 10 miles from downtown Juneau at Auke Bay which is a very popular marina for fishing and touring boats. Due to some harbor construction, the view from Chan's has been greatly improved with spectacular views of the harbor, boats, and distant mountains. Not all table have the view. In sum, this is an excellent restaurant with great food that somehow misses the five star level because it seems to lack certain flavors that are found in Bangkok restaurants. Lemon grass?? We will return.

I've had plenty of Thai food at home in California, so I have plenty to compare it to when I say that, lunching here on a visit to Juneau, I found it thoroughly satisfactory, with large, hearty portions of good-quality food. Deservedly popular among locals who have, I guess, nothing else like it.

This rating is based on my 1 and only visit to this restaurant. I had heard for over a year that this was the best Thai food that I would ever eat. I stopped in 2 or 3 times but they were always closed when I came by. So I finally ate at this restaurant yesterday. There are signs everywhere that they prepare each dish one at a time and to expect a long wait to be seated and then to receive your meal. So, I was prepared for a long wait. I figured the food would probably be great since I waited 45 minutes for it to finally arrive, it was not good at all, improperly seasoned,it wasn't even hot. The servers are very friendly, the portions are large. But, it unfortunately wasn't worth the wait.

Chan's Thai Kitchen was a place I heard people praising their food. I came to find out for myself with my own tastebuds. I'm not a real fan of Thai cuisine, but the people of Juneau really must not have traveled to Thailand or do they think Chung King and LaChoy to be good Chinese food as well. I just didn't find the food here very good nor would I return nor recommend it, disappointing, way overrated. I like the Pad Thai visiting Thailand, this missed the target for me at this place.

Chan's excels on several measures. Friendly staff and great Thai food has easily made Chan's a local favorite. It may not have the best ambiance, but a seat by the window will give you a spectacular view of Auke Bay (if cars aren't blocking the window). To an outsider the food may be on the pricey side, but to locals it's about average. I recommend the curry dishes. The green curry is prepared very well. It's loaded with a variety of vegetables which are cut to just the right size. The sauce's bold coconut milk flavor has the right amount of spiciness to it. After reading earlier reviews I decided to try the red curry halibut. Honestly, I wasn't impressed. The texture of the halibut came across as being either overcooked or being in the freezer for a while. In other words it didn't taste fresh and I felt it didn't belong in a curry dish. Tourists can have the halibut.... I'll stick with chicken. A line of hungry folks out the door is common during the summer but the wait is usually quick. There are signs all over the restaurant acknowledging the line and that their quality will not be compromised for speed. Commendable, simply commendable. Tip: In case there is a line, sign up at the counter to ensure a spot in queue. Their business hours are kinda funky. Sometimes they're open for lunch, sometimes they're not. Sometimes they're closed for a couple of days, a couple of weeks, or a couple of months without notice. Totally inconsistent and unpredictable. Chan's loses a star for that.

The only reason I don't give it five stars is I was only able to sample about five items: the coconut chicken soup, spring rolls, special shrimp summer rolls, spicy chicken and vegetables, and massamam curry with chicken. All of those dishes were 5 star, and I don't doubt the rest of the menu was excellent as well. The coconut soup was sweet, very coconutty with a slight hint of lime and chucks of fresh ginger. Delicious. The rolls were ample and tasty. Very fresh, crisp vegetables in both. The curry was tasty, with large chunks of potato and ample pieces of chicken. All of the portions were large. The chicken with vegetables was loaded with eggplant and greenbeans. Spicy. I try a lot of Thai food and if I lived here I'd be a regular.

I like this place and wish I could get out there more often. It isn't the best Thai food ever but its good and reliable, I have never had a bad meal here. Also the ice tea alone is worth a visit. Because it is the only Thai place in Juneau it can be pretty crowed. If you are looking to take your time and really enjoy a meal this is the place to go. I love the chicken coconut soup and the spring rolls, now I am hungry grr.

The vegetarian pad thai was fantastic, but skip the thai basil. Still, an awesome restaurant and so surprising to find outside of Juneau!

Really great food and they mean it, as per their signs, they won't compromise quality for speed. In other words, be prepared for a long wait during regular meal times. Have easily waited over an hour between getting a table and getting food. However, if you don't mind the wait, the food is outstanding. They could easily expand with more kitchen staff and double their business but that's not what they want to do. The big guy who runs the place seems like he's not happy being there though the rest of the staff is very pleasant. Make sure you call first to ensure their open. They have some weird hours and close for frequent vacations. There is another Thai restaurant in Juneau that recently opened near McDonalds and they have good food as well.

Surprisingly good Thai food considering it's the only Thai restaurant in Juneau. Does not have the variety of Thai restaurants found in the lower 48 but the food is very good.

Holy this was great. I've always heard of this place and from time to time I want to fly to Juneau just to eat there. If i remember right each dish is made from scratch. This could be a restaurant I would consider dinning at for my last meal.

Another year, another trip to Juneau and Chan's Thai Kitchen! Based on Theresa B.'s review, and the server's recommendation, I ordered red curry halibut, and I swear to Baby Jesus up above, it is one of the best things I have ever put in my mouth. Get your mind out of the gutter.

As far as Thai food in general goes, it doesn't really deserve 5 stars. In Juneau, however, its great. If you're planning on eating out in Juneau and you aren't already aware of the lackluster food scene, then this is one of the few I would recommend. I had the curry and spring rolls and they were definitely pretty good. The wait was long but the service was great. All in all, if you're in Juneau, don't expect much but definitely go here.

The Thai food is good, not crazy good, just good. It helps that they're the only Thai food for miles that people think this place is so great. With regards to service, I've always been disappointed. I think its the guys who owns it, the 'host' seems to want to be somewhere else. And the fact that people are willing to wait like 40 min in the rain for a table shows that there is a serious lack of restaurant alternatives in the area.

3.5. Good food, and the long wait is expected by returning customers. You can always request that your food be spicy, great for the red or green curry. Just be warned they use orange habaneros that look a lot like carrot slivers. Good portions for sharing. Very consistent food.

I love and miss Chan's EVERY single time I go out for Thai food. I moved to Seattle 4 years ago, where there are an overabundance of Thai restaurants... and I still have yet to find anything that compares. Maybe it's because growing up in Juneau, Chan's was the first Thai food that I ever tried. The fact that I still love it though, tells me that's not the only reason. Their green curry, coconut milk soup, and fried tofu are all some of my stand-out favorites. There is almost always a wait- but it's for a good reason. Their staff is wonderful and once you're seated, you'll be happy. I can't wait to be home next month and come to Chan's!

This restaurant is a dump - dirty and crowded. It is the only thai restaurant in Juneau - so with no competition, everyone thinks it is wonderful. It is only ok. Nice staff.

Excellent food, but long wait to get seated (because it's so popular) and long wait to get food. Well worth it though, and they openly admit that fact. In fact, they have a mock award for being the slowest restaurant ever hanging on the wall.

I live in Fremont, the land of Thai food in Seattle. And this place was decent. There is often a long wait for your food to come, so be patient. We went on a Friday afternoon, so we were able to snag a table fairly quickly. The food came after 40 minutes or so, but at least you know it was cooked to order. We ordered the halibut curry - something that we don't really have fresh back home. The one dish was plenty for 2 of us. We just order extra rice. It was flavorful and well-spiced. If I lived in Juneau, this Thai place would be on my speed dial since I can't live without Thai food!

Curries here are delicious~! Staff is nice and delightful. I dont know if it is comparable to thai food elsewhere outside of Alaska but come on now, its Alaska.

The ONLY reason I can even give this place a rating is because it INSPIRED me to learn how to make Thai Food which could only begin to touch the Thai outfits in the Western USA area! Although there are people who come to this town once in a blue-moon from far-out remote areas, if you are passing through Juneau and are used to GOOD Thai food, DON'T BOTHER HERE! I was only a couple miles away....and that is how little I liked it! The staff was very friendly though.......atleast they tried to make up for the food!
