My fellow Yelpers certainly hyped up Doriola's, by giving it one of the highest Yelp ratings of any restaurant in Anchorage. I was excited to try this place out. I ordered a Reuben with chips here the other day for lunch. (You can tell a lot about a place by their ability to do a good Reuben.) I really can't say much more other than well......it was a standard, tasty sandwich. I'd rate Doriola's four stars for the food but 3 stars for the value. I thought it was a bit pricey for what I ordered. Like most restaurants in Alaska, I never felt the desire to return to Doriola's.

My husband and I stopped here because we read a review that said they had Reuben sandwiches. It's a bit tucked away in a strip mall, so you have to keep your eyes peeled so you don't drive by. The Reubens were very good, but definitely overpriced. The half sandwich is probably enough for most peoples' appetite to be satiated. We also ordered the Mushroom soup in lieu of the standard chip side, which did not disappoint. Unfortunately, considering the cost of the ingredients to make soup, a sandwich, and two soy lattes, our lunch was about $50. The food was good, but we could have made the same thing at home for a fraction of the cost.

It's a pretty cute cafe. They have an always changing menu and offer tasty specials. The atmosphere is very comfortable and warm, with great service to boot. However, I don't like how they charge a whole dollar for soy milk in the coffee. And it's the cardboard box Silk, not even the better-tasting and fresh half-gallon type you can get cheap at Costco. There is a discernible difference when shelf-stable stuff is used. I couldn't finish my latte, because it just didn't taste good. The prices are slightly expensive for the size of the portions, but the service and consistent quality of the food makes it worth it most of the time. I don't come here on my own; it's a couple of my girlfriends' favorite place to come. While I don't crave it, nor go out of my way to patronize Doriola's on a consistent basis, it's definitely better than your average cafe and I don't ever turn down a suggestion of meeting there.

This place is awesome for lunch. I went on Black Friday with my girlfriends for some sustenance in between shopping "adventures" that day. 3 of us ordered from the "choose 2" - I had a 1/2 slice of quiche lorraine and a cup of an amazing roasted red pepper tomato soup. My friend had the same quiche and a cup of corn chowder. Both soups & quiche were amazing. Great portion size too. Another of our group had a yummy looking salad w/a 1/2 sandwich. Our choose 2 was $9. The other person in our party ordered a full house (?) sandwich. It was huge, and the 20-something skinny one that she is finished off the whole thing. Service was friendly and fast. The menu changes daily based on what the chef wants to make that day. The interior is bright and happy, with local art posted around the walls. Several tables to accommodate various groups. They also serve espresso. They post their menu online (though not early enough for black Friday shoppers) :) Either way, if you have time to review the menu or not, venture in. You won't be disappointed. I'm already trying to figure out when I can go there again!

Really enjoyed the salad I got which had spinach and strawberries topped with walnuts. Good service, was quite packed when I first came here, but the service was great and quick. Going to make a trip back here some time.

You can always count on some delicious unique flavors that you can't find anywhere else in town. On a cold day, I warmed up with some delicious butternut squash soup and Quiche Lorraine. The atmosphere is quiet and it's a great place for a coffee date with a business associate.

Everything that I've ordered from here is amazingly good. Bite size cookies rock! If that wasn't enough, the staff is incredibly friendly. Great Atmosphere. Great Food. Priceless.

Great comfort food in a friendly, warm environment. My turkey and applewood bacon sandwich was delicious and the flavors nicely balanced. It's not a cheapo lunch spot but I thought it was well worth the price.

Great relaxed experience with outstanding food! Best place I have visited on my trip here. I had their mozzarella, bacon, and tomato panini; their sharp cheddar and German beer soup, and their salmon, dill, and lemon quiche. Excellent food. Very fast as well. I ordered and had the food in about 5 minutes. This is a place where they know you by name! I experienced 3 people called by first names as they sat down. The service was flawless. I felt like I was family. They were very inviting. I was bring anyone back here!

I ate at this place over a year ago on a yelp review and had the Rueben that i turned into a pastrami, it was fantastic, very lean. I came back today when i arrived from So Cal and still just as good.

You wouldn't expect much from this place by looking at it from the outside. It's a small place nestled in one of Anchorage's many short strip malls. It sits beside a Wells Fargo and a chiropractor's office. Once you get inside, though, it's a different story altogether! The food is excellent, the people are friendly, and the place is cozy. There isn't a whole lot of space to sit down so it's somewhat crowded during the lunch rush. They do to-go orders though! Today I had the bagel melt. One of the lovely ladies told me that I'd love it, and was she right! It is definitely in my top three sandwiches of all time! The daily specials are always great, and the portions are great. I highly recommend trying this place out.

Not much I can say about this FABULOUS place - that hasn't been said before & since then open'd,....DORIOLAS ROCKS when it comes to a place to go for REALLY good food. Sadly I am unable to visit as often as I would like - as I do not work close by (like I had for many years). So, I must enjoy it on Saturdays from now on :( But seriously, one of the BEST places in town for some of the BEST soup creations around, YUM! I often take out of towners there. My Mother LOVES it (she lives in So. California) and our friends from Berlin have been there everytime they come to visit us! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the place! Everything about it! :)

There are a few things that I like about this place. The wait staff is always pleasant and attentive. Most of the time I go it is lunch time. I understand that I am not the only person in the restaurant and they try hard to pay attention to everyone. I love the fact that I never know what is going to be on the menu. Every day is something different that is always excellent. Most of the places you go to have the same thing on the menu day after day. And most of the food that I see at other restaurant comes from Costco. The food at Doriolas always taste fresh. Which leads me to the soup. I don't mind spending a couple extra dollars for soup that does not come from a bag or can. Seriously, has anyone had clam chowder in this town? It taste the same at every restaurant. I applaud this restaurant for not falling into the trap most owners do and just go for the money. Thank you for keeping the menu as fresh as possible. I can taste the passion that the chef puts into the food on a daily basis. And yes the complimentary cookies are good also.

What can I say about Doriola's that hasn't already been said? The reviews are consistently 5 stars, because heck, the restaurant IS THAT GOOD. Housed in an unassuming retail strip mall, you may not expect such a fantastic, epicurean hangout, yet this exactly that sort of place. The decor is so warm, homey and inviting that you can feel your stress and troubles melting away as you enter this Sandwich Sanctum. The staff is friendly, helpful and really do a fantastic job of making you feel welcome and at home. In fact, they make you feel like a friend from the moment you sit down. The service is extremely attentive, even when it's busy (and BOY ARE THEY BUSY). But Viv and her girls never, ever let you see 'em sweat. Nothing seems to ruffle them and it almost seems like when there's a rush, they kick in to customer service high gear and give you even better service(if that's even possible). I had a delicious Rueben sandwich, that got better with each and every bite I took. I loved that as a finishing touch, there was a delicious, bite sized cookie to go along with. It was such a nice touch...that's what makes Doriola's so great...they do the big things (food quality and service) right and don't forget about the little ones. If I was going to own a restaurant, Doriola's is exactly how I'd want it to be.

I had lunch at Doriola's today at the behest of my lunch partner. It's probably been 2 years since I've had lunch here and I was willing to give this glorified lunch counter a second chance. My first visit resulted in a poor wait staff experience and a bill that was frankly, insulting. Not much has changed. Doriola's continues to price a cup of soup, 2 slices of bread, a slice of mozzarella, 2 strips of bacon, and a slice of tomato at $18.00. But wait! If you order from the daily special menu you're given a $2.00 discount which brings the price down to only $16.00. Really!!?!! What a bargain.... By the way, the wait staff still needs training. I waited longer at the end of my lunch for my credit card to be returned than I did for my way-over-priced sandwich to be delivered. Doriola's is likely to remain in business for years to come. It's a shame that their clientele aren't more aware of true artesian chefs that don't prey on the uninformed. The folks that eat at Doriola's regularly should explore the many options available in Anchorage. They'd find so many great lunch spots at a much more honest price.

I finally tried this place for first time after hearing lots of good things and it was indeed GOOD. I had a spicy-hot cream of sweet potato soup and a chicken basil panini sammich (the scookums). I work downtown and was worried it would take too long to get there and back on my lunch hour but it's pretty quick to get to if you take Minnesota and turn left onto Tudor. And the service was fast and friendly. You might want to get there a little early though if you're going for lunch. There were lots of tables empty when we arrived at 11:30 but it was packed by noon. My only hesitation is I thought the duo plate with half a sandwich and a cup of soup was a little pricey at $11. The portion size was good but it seems like $9 or $10 would be more reasonable. Or maybe if they threw in a small side salad for that price. Anyway -- I would recommend it!

This is one of my favorite lunch places. I like that the servings are proportionate, so if you want to choose 3 items (complete) then, it's not too much to eat. The Yukon Gold Potato Soup is a fantastic soup, and I love the Asparagus Quiche. I recently stopped by for breakfast for the first time. Unfortunately, I couldn't bring myself to try something new... I had the sundried tomato and spinach quiche. They have bagels and granola as some other choices. Guess I will have to go back another time. The owners, two sisters are really nice and remember my name every time. They are super friendly, and I appreciate it being locally owned.

This isn't just the best place for soup and sandwiches in Anchorage, it may be the best soup and sandwich joint I've found anywhere, no exaggeration. How do they do it? The menu, which changes every day, consists entirely of sandwiches (and the occasional wrap), soups, salads, and quiches and is structured to encourage you to try half of one and half of another. I usually order a soup and sandwich combo, so that's what I will focus on. Sandwiches tend to be classics with slight modifications. Doriola's didn't just serve me my first BLTA, they went even further and made it a BLT-TA (with roast turkey). They don't just make a great grilled cheese sandwich, they use three cheeses, bacon, AND a slice of apple. I suspect the menu is designed by coming up with the best way to make a classic sandwich and then thinking of what would make that sandwich even better. Even the weakest sandwich at Doriola's is still pretty good. If the sandwiches are "merely" excellent, the soups are absolutely fantastic. Not only is every ingredient chosen with care, not only does every soup feature some of the most complex flavors of any soup you have ever eaten, but each cup of soup is individually finished. Sometimes it's just a few herbs, but often it's a splash of cream or a bit of cheese on top. The contrast between the immediately fresh topping and the subtly rich textures of the soup creates an experience to which all other soups should aspire to match. Favorite soups include the cream of tomato, avgolemono, and ginger-chicken. I have only had a salad once. The fixings are well-chosen and the dressing is tasty (they sell bottles of it), though there might've been a bit too much dressing for the quantity of greens provided. Don't let this deter you - consider using a corner of your sandwich to capture the rest of the dressing. Although I don't do quiche, a co-worker sang its praises every time we ordered lunch for the department. Underlying the wonderful food is a great cafe experience. Service is always fast, and they give you both a lemon in your water and a small cookie with your check. The cookie really does make a big difference, cleansing the palate but then leaving a hint of sweetness in your mouth as you leave. Don't doubt the brilliance of Doriola's for one second - they give you a cookie even for take-out orders. I am always amazed that a restaurant like this is in Anchorage, let alone in a strip mall on Tudor Road next to Tokyo Garden and the No IRS tax prep place. This is the experience all other cafes must now live up to in my eyes, and I miss it every day now that I live elsewhere. If you are in Anchorage, bookmark the website and check it every day before making lunch plans anywhere else.

My absolutely favorite lunch place in midtown Anchorage. Superb food and service. Beautiful surroundings with art and crafts to view and purchase. Creative gourmet soups salads and sandwiches. Their cookbook is a foodie's delight with Alaskan photos and creative dishes using local seafood produce and game.

While I did an 8 month internship here, I discovered this place towards the end of my term. But it was amazing for lunch places! The food was delicious and I loved that everything was homemade. The serving sizes were adequate. I loved it so much that I even bought their cookbook. Unfortunately the cookbook is not as good as the restaurant food. The best part was the cookies they give you at the end of your meal with the bill.
